Bruce would serve well as the next Phil Martelli for the next up and coming big name recruiter that needs his coaching skills refined. As many have mentioned, good coach, crappy recruiter. Mad respect for his FU to the NCAA with regards to punishing the untouchables.
I agree he could be good in an advisor role, especially for defense.

There were more NBA players on the team that got Bruce fired than there are on our current team.

There were more top 100 recruits on that team than on last year's 1 seed too.
Never said I would trade him for Underwood...lol. As I believe somebody stated earlier, there are teams, P5 in my opinion, that could upgrade with Weber as their coach. With that being said, I was 100% behind Weber being let go from U of I.

KSU fans thinking that Underwood would leave here to go to coach for their program.

As others have noted, I hope he coaches elsewhere if he wants to, has success, and retires on his own terms. If he doesn't, I wish him well regardless. He's a good man.

And having been away from the threads for ~ six hours (a veritable lifetime in early March, mind you), please allow me to express my unabashed delight that bull semen has become a Loyalty topic du jour.
It was the weirdest detour into animal husbandry ever.
Par for the course.

$$$. No mention of Brad in the above article on KSU coaching candidates. Whew…
True but the article, unlike the comments, don't even acknowledge Underwood. There's no way KSU doesn't at least reach out. I don't think it's a long conversation but they'll make the call.

Weber is a great guy and I'm sure a lot of schools would hire him with his track record in coaching.

Your premise that BW was “incompetent” and in over his head is laughable. I love the posters who give BW zero credit for bringing us to the championship game because he did it with Self’s players. Do we forget how few coaches have made it to the championship game regardless of talent level? Do we forget the hand he was dealt working at UI under the AD and others during that time. I saw on Twitter that on a recruiting trip, Izzy let him fly on his MSU private jet from a camp to visit recruits in Akron because BW was flying commercial and had to wake up at 3:00 am to catch the flight. If you’re suggesting the Peter Principle applied to BW because successful coaches at his level should cheat, then I dont know what to tell you.
I never thought he was incompetent, but I do think he was probably in the 3rd quartile when it comes to Big 10/P5 coaching. Given the natural advantages Illinois has in terms of recruiting, that is enough to keep you around .500 in conference, which is pretty much where he ended up once Self's recruits left

Putting coaching aside, I posted this on Twitter and will post it here as well.

Always liked Bruce when he was at Illinois, was a very down to earth guy. Saw him at Best Buy one time in Champaign. Went up to say hi, and he was happy to chat for a few minutes. Have watched him at K-State as well. 100% class all the way.

I do realize that when he was let go it was time, and I won't try to defend him throwing players under the bus at times, as that was uncalled for (there are better ways to motivate players) - but as far as being a genuinely good guy and a good coach in the right situation you could do worse. Best of luck to him if he does find another landing spot - and I will follow him there as well.

I’ve always felt that Illinois basketball should be in or on the cusp of the top 25 every season. I think BWs tenure is being met with a bit of revisionist history. He was ranked during at least a part of the following seasons:

03-04
04-05
05-06
08-09
09-10
10-11
11-12

This means he was ranked at some point during all but ONE season over his tenure with Illinois. Groce was ranked in his first 3 seasons then never to be ranked again. I’m as happy as anyone to have Brad, but let’s not overstate how “bad” BW is/was.

I'm not aware of any NBA players on our current team

I think “natural advantages” had started to fade during his tenure. Recruiting is a much smaller world now. I think those “natural advantages “ have been replaced by personal and financial connections.
