This is a pipedream. The team is estimated to be worth over 6 billion dollars. They generated over 550 million in revenue last season, when they had the worst record in football... Who the heck sells the family legacy/cash cow?

I can't imagine this will be a real issue. If they aren't liquid enough to cover the taxes, surely, they can get a loan based on their 6-billion-dollar asset.

You can basically divide the Bears’ history into 6 chunks.

48 seasons from 1920-1967 - The Halas Years - 40 winning seasons, 12 Championship appearances, winning 8 of them.

16 seasons from 1968-1983 - 2 winning seasons. 0 playoff wins.

8 seasons from 1984-1991 - The Ditka Years - 7 winning seasons. Super Bowl win plus two more NFC Championship appearances.

13 seasons from 1992-2004. 3 winning seasons. 1 playoff win.

8 seasons from 2005-2012 - The Lovie Years - 5 winning seasons. Super Bowl appearance plus an NFC Championship appearance.

11 seasons from 2013-now. 1 winning season. 0 playoff wins.
One winning season in 11 years?
How does that compare historically with other "bottom-feeding" teams in the NFL?

The Bears are certainly getting close to being competitive

Which active NFL team has the most consecutive seasons with a losing record?

The New York Jets have had 7 seasons in a row with a losing record, which is the longest currently active streak in the NFL. The closest the Jets came to a winning season in the past 7 seasons was in 2019 when they went 7-9 (43.8% win percentage).

Which NFL team has most consecutive losing seasons all time?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the record for most consecutive losing seasons at 14 seasons. The streak started in 1983 and went until 1996. The closest the Buccaneers came to a winning season in this span was in 1995 when they went 7-9 (43.8% win percentage).

"Bear down, Chicago Bears! Make every play clear the way to victory.
Bear down, Chicago Bears! Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly.
We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T-formation.
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you're wearing the crown.
You're the pride and joy of Illinois! Chicago Bears, bear down!"

Think about the words of this song. And then think about how the Bears have done on the field in the past 60 years. Talk about words not matching reality.

Instead, maybe the new Bears fight song should be Strawberry Fields Forever.

“Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields... Living is easy with eyes closed... Strawberry Fields forever”.

About every 20 years the Bears can expect to have a championship team.

Watching Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus and Walter Payton almost makes up for it.

Sayers had moves like no other. He made cuts no one had ever seen before. And that speed. Defenders were still seeing Sayers vanish past them in their nightmares.

Butkus was just the prototype mean-as-hell mother that you dreaded to face as an opponent. But you loved as a teammate. That mean-looking snarl – the template for an old Chicago Bear.

And Payton’s heart and durability very few could ever try to match. He hated anyone to bring him down.

And almost every season that these guys played in was a wasted one for the Bears as a team.

It’s too bad that they were not rewarded enough with team success. Sort of like working hard and being a good employee but working for a bad company.

Becoming increasingly clear that the best move would be to keep Fields, collect whatever picks you can get for the #1 while still getting Marvin Harrison Jr., and go from there (especially with the rumor that ‘Flus has done enough to retain his job).

Of course, that means you need to get ready for them to take Drake Maye #1.

I say keep Fields and trade #1 for another 1rst round pick and draft Harrison to get another good receiver. Then draft trade for additional linemen on both sides of the ball..I just see no reason to draft another QB unless you are firing the entire staff and starting over. I see light at the end of this tunnel

This upswing in the Bears performance lately will either turn out to be the best thing.. or the worst thing... that could happen to the franchise.

If the Coach and QB have done enough to keep their jobs... and the Bears have a good or great year next year... it will be the best thing.

If the Coach and QB keep their jobs and next year the Bears backslide and have a worse year than this one... it will be the worst thing and set the franchise further backwards. Fools gold.

The best thing the Bears organization could do right now is to consult with the best psychics they can find -- see what kind of year next season would be with the same leaders -- and then know what they should do in this offseason.

Or instead, they'll spend most of their time just figuring out which Chicago suburb to move to. But a good psychic could be useful there, too.

I’m not a Bears fan, but I love talking and thinking about team building and my dream job would be the GM for a professional sports teams. I’ve always loved franchise mode in sports games.

Plus since I live near Chicago I get all the bears news and it’s interesting to see all the different opinions on what hey should do with their QB situation. .

IMO the Bears should trade this 1.01 pick for a haul like they did last year.

Maybe Fields isn’t a QB you win because of, but he’s certainly a QB you can win with. Trading the 1.01 will get you 3-5 additional pieces for this team, and that will be much more valuable than taking a shot on a QB at 1.01.

How many QBs taken at 1.01 become generational players? How many times is the best QB taken in a draft not the first QB taken in the draft?

Let some tram overpay for 1.01. Get a couple current assets for it and next year’s 1st, and maybe with that other team’s first you find yourself sitting back near the top of the draft again.

I'm in this camp.

With roughly a 70% confidence level of success. Fortunately my job is not on the line.

If the other 31 teams are willing to offer more in trade for Caleb Williams than Justin Fields I think that says something about the value of each player in the league.

What we don't know is if Ryan Poles has a really high grade on Caleb Williams that is better than most other QB prospects like lots of others do. si.com/nfl/draft/news/caleb-williams or si.com/david-shaw-calls-caleb-williams-the-best-quarterback-prospect-since-andrew-luck. If Poles grades Caleb out at P. Manning or A. Luck level, then you have to draft him. If the grade is lower, the decision to trade will be easier if other teams have that high of a grade.

Usually the #1 QB prospects start off on the wrong foot because the teams and situations they are going to are awful. Which is why the team has the #1 pick to begin with. Being able to put a #1 QB prospect on a team, like the Bears, that are on the upswing is really rare. Caleb on the Bears next year will be so much better than what Bryce had to deal with on the Panthers.

Question then is if you trust that Matt Eberflus and his staff are the best to mentor a rookie QB. I'm not at all sold on this.

A lot of this is contracts - Williams or Maye will be on a rookie deal. Fields is going to start costing high dollars soon. Your trying to time your window with the players and contracts you have.

The general formula has been to either have a guy on a rookie contract surrounded by talent (think Wilson and the Seahawks, purdy right now with the niners, burrow before he got paid) or a true elite that makes up for issues (Mahomes, etc)

There hasn’t been a ton of playoff success for guys who are good enough to be pretty good starters but not elite and also paid. Will be interesting to see if a team like the lions punches through that has a “pretty good guy”.

Easier said than done. If reports are true that AZ will stick with Murray and presumably take Harrison if available, right now that leaves only two trade partners — Wash and NE. While I could see both teams wanting to make a big splash (WA cuz of new ownership and NE if they and Bill B divorce), they could just as easily be happy staying put if they don’t absolutely love Caleb. WA might actually decide to ride with Howell and look to trade down to get more assets. Howell wasn’t very good this year, but his OL was atrocious. He’s been sacked 61 times this year. Bryce Young with 59 is the only QB close.

So will Bears trade down further and pass on Harrison? The next group of possibilities might be NYG (currently #5), Tenn (7) and Atlanta (#9). Atlanta seems most likely out of those with Giants having Daniel Jones under contract and Will Levis presumably TN QB of future. So how far down would you go?

Whatever the Bears do, they have to hit on those two draft picks. I’m still not convinced they won’t draft QB with #1. Fields has played better as has team, but it’s come against the 5th easiest schedule this year. If Poles loves Caleb, will he trade #1 pick two years in a row and pass again on drafting HIS QB. I think he’ll at least see if Fields’ trade stock has risen with his improved play. I’d think a second rounder plus maybe a 5th or lower would be best you can do. Might be able to get a 2025 first for him instead, but I would think with a rookie QB the emphasis will be on adding talent around him right away.

Going to be an interesting off season with the Bears likely throwing out a few red herrings along the way.
