The Bears are giving running back D'Andre Swift a three-year, $24.5 million deal, including $15.3 million guaranteed, according to his agent.
Based on the QB signings today, I think the Bears will be lucky to get a 4th round pick for Fields. A 5th round pick is more likely.
Minnesota and Denver are the only teams left that might try to get Fields to be a starter.

I'd add Washington and New England to that list, especially if they have doubts about Maye/Daniels. They could then trade down and pick up some draft capital.
Beyond that you're looking at teams that may have second thoughts about their incumbent QB (Giants, Seahawks, Saints). Plenty of options on the table, but definitely much less of a carousel than last year. I can see him going for a third still, or maybe a 2024 4th and 2025 conditional 4th. I agree a 2nd rounder is out the window.

Unreal. The AH site was perfect, just too many fingers in the money pie I guess.
As to FOTP, be careful what you wish for...I'll bet the museum would have had a much smaller footprint and environmental impact than a stadium.

There was zero chance the Bears would trade Fields to Minnesota, so this one doesn't move the needle IMO. Also I fully expect the Vikings to draft a QB this year (McCarthy, Nix or Penix), so Darnold is just there to bridge the gap.

Im no fan of the McCaskeys, but if I understand correctly, numerous taxing bodies , mainly school districts, wanted to bump the valuation of the site from where it has been, to what the Bears paid for it. IMO, thats not right as is.
No reason to do that until they start finishing construction , once it starts.

Why not? Isn't the price of the land the best indicator of the value of the land?
There is a large tract of largely empty/underdeveloped land immediately to the west of Lake Shore Drive and immediately to the south of I55, easily connected to McCormick Place either underground or by building over I55. I have heard no discussion regarding this piece of real estate. Is this area a possibility?
There are various methods in appraising property for taxes.
First is a general re-evaluation of the land and improvement values in a given area. This kind of revaluing goes on all the time everywhere to get assessment values up to market values.
Then there is ‘Cost’... ‘Income’... ‘Sales Comparison’. What did a land and/or improvement cost? What kind of income does this property generate? What are comparable properties selling for? And other considerations.
Taxing entities reserve to themselves which valuation method they choose to use.
Naturally , the Bears will argue for cheapest method of valuation and very often the taxing entity will seek the highest. Also in this case, everyone knows the Bears as part of the NFL have VERY deep pockets. To try to keep a tax burden off other citizens a taxing entity could try to get as much as they can from such a rich source. They are going to get a certain amount of tax money to meet their budgets and needs. And if they don't get it from the Bears then they will tax other land owners more to get it.
But if the Bears showed as much interest in putting a good football team on the field as they are trying to work tax angles... Chicago football fans would be in much better shape.

even in a free market economy, the price one person might pay is not always the "true value" to anyone else
plenty of examples where things have been way overvalued , for whatever reason.
Personally, I think democratic party politics got involved here, Again, I'm no fan of the McCaskeys nor Kevin Warren, but
I just think Pritzker, Preckwinkle, Johnson , et al got to the friendly faces on those AH school boards.
Lets see how those three strong arm the Friends of the Parks the next 3 years

Bears have also signed a TE. Can’t remember his name, but was on LAC and prior to that had real nice stats in Seattle with Bears’ new OC.

Friends of the Park did put out a lengthy statement in response to the news about the Bears wanting to build a new stadium on the lakefront. One suggestion they made for where the new stadium could be put would be on the site of the former Michael Reese hospital.
