Offense has had some short fields to work with courtesy of the defense. Running game has looked a lot like they did on Monday. Up until the final Saints drive of the 1st half, the defense had played really well.

We're terrible at end of half and game defense...

This team is just as sloppy as it was last year. It actually saved them on the fourth down.

Bears rushing attack was awesome. Passing game still needs work. Still far too many penalties that killed drives or extended Saints drives. Granted a few of them were questionable but still.

So coming out of the bye Johnson has decided to just go smash mouth on offense and lean on the defense. Which is interesting and the sign of a good coach because I’m sure that’s the opposite of what he wants to do.

But what do Johnson’s decisions say about his confidence in Caleb?

I don’t think his decisions necessarily say all that much about his confidence in Caleb. I think they say more about the performance of and his confidence in Swift and the OL increasing. First 4 games, Bears averaged 27 carries per game. That’s the same amount of rushes they had against Washington in first game after bye. The difference was instead of averaging under 3 yards a carry as they did in the two games prior to the bye, they averaged 5.4 ypc first game back. Last week they had 40 carries against Saints and averaged 5.6 ypc.

Plus, it’s not like Johnson doesn’t want to run the ball. Through first six games last year, Lions averaged 34 carries per game. On the season they were 3rd in rushing attempts and 6th in rushing yards per game. Those don’t seem like stats for a team that is coached by a guy who doesn’t want to run. Johnson definitely uses run game to set up passing. Now we just need Caleb to increase his understanding and execution of the offense to the same level Goff had. Hopefully see improvement this week, because may need that to beat Ravens.

Kyler Gordon and Braxton Jones both placed on IR.

Austin Booker, who has been on IR the entire regular season, was ruled out for tomorrow's game as well. If he is not activated to the 53-man roster by Tuesday, then he will have to remain on IR the rest of the season.
