I'm having a lot of fun watching this team.

I especially enjoyed the starter being chased in the 1st after only getting 2 outs. If they keep that up, they are going to win more games than previously thought.

6 of the top 9 position players in terms of plate appearances are back from last year. Essentially Zobrist replaces Castro's at bats, Heyward replaces Coghlan's, and we're pretty sure Baez will replace Schwarber's. (I'm talking in terms of plate appearances, not necessarily position on the field.)

Zobrist walks WAYYYYYYY more than Castro. About 12/100 PA versus about 5/100.

Heyward walks a bit more than Coghlan about 10/100 to 9/100.

From what little track record we have, it appears Baez is nowhere near as patient as Schwarber. In the minors Baez walked about once every 17 PA, while Schwarber once in every 7. Those rates were about the same in both players' limited MLB runs. I'll be curious to see if some of the patience can rub off on Baez once he's back with the team. (Baez hasn't walked yet in his 11 PA at Iowa this year.).

But, his biggest problem is that he is a man without a position (unless you make him a super utility guy). Soler has shown that he can play decent defense in the OF. And, until Baez proves that his bat is that much better than Soler's, I'll take Soler's OF experience over Baez's bat most days.

Baez is an excellent defensive 2nd baseman. He's only 23 and signed through the 2021 season. In a perfect world, he gradually moves into the full-time 2b spot as Zobrist gets older. That is, if he can hit consistently on the Big League level.

This team is just relentless. They don't swing at bad pitches. You can see the frustration in the pitcher's faces after every 'chase ball' that they don't chase. I love these 5 run innings where they throw 50 pitches and we take 2 walks and hit 2 seeing-eye base hits.

Love this team.

Baez is not an excellent defensive 2B. He wasn't any better than Castro. What Baez offers that Castro didn't is position flexibility. On his rehab assignment at Iowa they have had him playing LF.

Murderers row 2016!! Youre absolutely right about the plate discipline. Its crazy. Those pitchers have control, they just throw those chase balls, and we dont chase. It was pretty amazing last year that we led the league in walks but also in strikeouts lol. Is that a common thing? Im not sure.

There are really only two really crappy moves on Theo's Cubs record. The Edwin Jackson signing and the DJ Lemahieu and Tyler Colvin for Ian Stewart trade.

Weigh those against some of the amazing coups this front office has pulled off, and it's clear what a great job they've done.

Ian Stewart is tied for my least favorite player to ever wear the Cubs uniform in my lifetime. He shares that title with Milton Bradley.

Fun game last night. Fowler re-signing is looking so good right now, he is really earning some bank. Bullpen is strong also.
