The Cubs bench - LaStella, Ross, Baez and Szczur - came into today's game with none of them OPSing less than .795. They combined to go 4 for 9 with 2 runs, 5 RBIs, and a walk today.
Lester has pitched wonderfully so far this season but still gets the yips fielding his position, as in the seventh inning today. I don't understand why Atlanta wouldn't try bunting back to the mound at least once when they had the bases loaded and no outs.

A win today puts the Cubs 6 games up in their division.
On May 4th!
If the Cubs play at a fairly modest 90-win pace (.556 winning percentage) for the remainder of the season, the Pirates would have to play at a 100-win pace (.617) to tie them.

For the second year in a row, Lester fielded a comebacker that became stuck in his glove and flipped his glove to Rizzo at 1B for the out.
I am sure thats a reasonable expectation. I however do not expect reasonable this year. I expect unreal results. Id like to see 20 or more wins in that time frame. If it happens awesome! If not, whatever.
Guess I nailed that prediction.

Small sample size alert: Baez has dropped his strikeout percentage from 40% in '14 to 30% in '15 to 20% in '16. If he keeps that up and continues to be amazing in the field, he's going to be very hard to keep out of the lineup.
Soler, meanwhile is only 4 for his last 33 and has only started in two of the last 6 games despite Heyward being banged up and Szczur going on the DL.
Wow, that is really cool. nice postLooking through the Cubs transaction history under Theo/Jed and found two facts I'd forgotten:
In addition to sending the Cubs Arrieta and Strop for Feldman and Clevenger, the Orioles also gave up cash.
We all know that McKinney was the second prospect received in the Russell trade, but did you remember that the Cubs got a third player, too? Dan Strailey never did much for the Cubs, but he was one of two guys sent to the Astros for Dexter Fowler.
