Haha, if you can't laugh at yourself...

Lester looking great tonight. Hoping for some insurance runs, 1 more inning from Lester, and Chapman for a 6 out save.

You still like the idea of Chapman attempting to get 6 outs? I'm just glad we could avoid the situation tonight (I'm assuming we win this one).

I do. Tight game, he is the best option by a country mile. I do believe that closers have a different mentality in different situations (fair or not). 3-1 game starting the 8th, Chapman has to be the guy.

He was certainly shaking some rust off, but I'd trust Chapman to get the pressure outs when needed.

Every time I watch Chapman pitch, I think of the Crash Davis quote from Bull Durham, "You got a gift. When you were a baby, the Gods reached down and turned your
arm into a thunderbolt." And for the sake of conversation, let's just omit the "And you're pissing it all away" line to end that quote. :)

I want that guy to have the ball. That situation is why he's in Chicago.

I think the umps' strike zones this series have been all over the place. Tonight might be the worse so far.

Yeah, last night's HP ump had a rough night. It's not too bad if he calls the same pitches all game but his zone was changing throughout the game. Not to mention, all of the plays under review.

Trying not to think about this weekend, but we are truly on the cusp of an historic achievement, or an historic collapse. Either way, you better believe that there will be feels.

The Cubs seem very unaffected by all of the surrounding chaos. That will bode well this weekend, 'cause there will be a LOT of it. I've already heard too much Bartman talk from the lazy national reporters.

Cubs don't need to rip Kershaw to shreds. Just 2-3 runs, and let our pitching staff ride it out to the World Series. We can do this.

I loved Bosio on WSCR. He pointed out that Hendricks only gave up one pop in game 2 and who knows, maybe we get the pop this time...

Baez's hit in the 7th of inning of that game was hit harder and went farther than Gonzo's HR. 20 feet to the left and this series is already over. I'm just thinking we get 1 of those. Just 1. OK, maybe 2.

Man it would be awesome to take the series against Kershaw. I don't think my heart could handle a game 7.

I want that guy to have the ball in the 9th inning, no question. Chapman has absolutely demonstrated that he can get the final 3 outs to close out games. I just wish we had a reliable setup man to get us through the 8th.

I live in DC, watch the nationals regularly and loosely follow the Cubs. I dont know what happened to you guys last night I think the Dodgers are truly a mediocre ball club getting by on smoke, mirrors and grit. Cubs in 6.

The Dodger's mediocrity was on full display last night. If there was any shred of doubt about us being the better team going into this game, it was gone once the 8th inning ended IMO.

Looking ahead to Saturday, this is the lineup I would put out against Kershaw:

1) Fowler, CF
2) Bryant, 3B
3) Rizzo, 1B
4) Zobrist, LF
5) Baez, 2B
6) Contreras, C
7) Russell, SS
8) Almora Jr. / Soler, RF
9) Hendricks, P

Order subject to change.

pretty much agree. I would give the nod to Almora Jr. Heyward nor Soler has done squat at the plate, but Joe will let Heyward start, and Almora will be relegated to pinch hit/defensive replacement status in the 7th

Holy cow Schwarbs starting in the AZ Fall League tonight. There's a greater than 0% chance he could be on a WS roster.

If this were to actually happen, it would instantly be legendary. Kyle Schwarber is already as much folk hero as ball player.

It would have to work because: Magic!

And blow his redshirt year??? Lol X 10

Seriously though, this seems doubtful. Basically a whole year off is not made up in a few at bats an Fall Ball.

I would not laugh it off as mindless chatter. Hes in AZ for fall ball league for a reason, and its got nothing to do with next season. The Cubs org most likely planted this story to make Cleveland think about it and you think Schwarber would be missing the team this weekend to be in rookie league if this was all pie in the sky ?

The guy hit 5 dingers in the playoff last season incl that legendary one atop the scoreboard in right. The Cubs could use his bat in the lineup if he is even just 95% healthy at the plate.

imagine the stories if it comes true AND he hits a meaningful homer

lets ignore the Schwarber talk for now, and lets just pretend the Cubs advance to the WS, is Soler your DH, or does Contreras DH ?

assuming we win tonite, is Arrietta your game 2 starter ?
if we close it out tomorrow with Jake, does Lackey pitch game 2 ?

Contreras is my DH. With him in there, you can actually live with Heyward's bat in the lineup. Since they have three catchers, little chance they'd need to use Contreras as a catcher (and thus, lose the DH. At least I think that is what would happen. I could be wrong on this).

I'd probably go Lester, Arrieta Hendricks and Lackey. Unless you want to save Arrieta and Hendricks for Wrigley where both have outstanding numbers, then you put Lackey #2.

#1,174
you are correct, they would lose the DH if Contreras went from DH to catcher

I didn't realize that, although it likely wouldn't matter, as the time of the game you might do that, you PH for the pitcher anyway. That's what Soler, Coghlan, Almora and Montero are for.
