At this point, aren’t the Cubs and Bellinger the last two people of the opposite sex at the bar at 2 am? They’ve hooked up before.… It seems like it’s going to happen. The question is…who is going to make the move.
Seeing what has been going on in the last 30 hours, did you really have to use that as an example?

No, there are 30 teams in your scenario. They would all like to take him home. If the top suitors don't make the move soon enough someone else will throw their cap into the ring. He will teach the Cubs a lesson by leaving with them, maybe even the Dodgers.

One would THINK that they would do something this week to stir up some excitement for the Cub Convention....But then they're dealing with Boras.

It’s infuriating. The Cards, Reds, Pirates and Brewers have all signaled that they’re done making big moves this year.

As is, FG projects the Cubs to be in third place, about 8 games behind the Cardinals, and 2 games behind the Brewers.

A relatively modest offseason of Bellinger, Imanega, Hoskins and Brasier (or insert free agent names of your choice) easily makes up that 8 game gap without giving up a prospect, future draft pick, or going over the tax threshold.

The division is right there, and they’re. Just. Not. Going. To. Do. It.

Agreed..... Typical Cub front office (before and after)16 championship.

My question is, why spend the $'s on Counsell??

Initial reports are saying $15 million a year. I’d guess 5 or 6 years, which would be almost exactly what Senga got with the Mets last year.

I think we’re hoping for about 150 innings of just under 4 ERA a year from him.

Basically, he’s a very solid Stroman replacement. A couple years younger and about $6 million cheaper.

It’s a solid start to an off season.

The Cubs should resign Stroman and have the shortest, soft-tossingest rotation in the majors (Steele, Imanaga, Hendricks, Stro). And then bring in fire-balling relievers. That would completely flummox their oponents! Not a bad strategy!

With their infield, they might average 5 double plays a game!
