3B - Morel/Madrigal (and then later, a trade deadline "rental" if needed). Perhaps Bregman......and extend him. It sounds as if Counsell loves Morel.
1B - Hoskins for 1 or 2 years (OBP floor of .335; Slugging floor of .455)
CF - Cody (6 years with opt-outs)
RP - Best available

DONE.

CODY MOVES TO 1B WHEN HOSKINS' CONTRACT EXPIRES, OR WHEN WE SHIFT HOSKINS TO DH. ALL OF THE TALENTED ROOKIES START TO FILL-IN AS THEY'RE READY IN 2024 AND 2025.

The Cubs should resign Stroman and have the shortest, soft-tossingest rotation in the majors (Steele, Imanaga, Hendricks, Stro). And then bring in fire-balling relievers. That would completely flummox their oponents! Not a bad strategy!

With their infield, they might average 5 double plays a game!

Giving Hoyer an A+ up to this point.

-- Developing a really strong B/B+ core at the major league level
-- Holding on to all the talent in our #4 ranked minor league system
-- Plenty of money yet to spend before hitting the 2024 salary cap
-- Appears to have "stolen" Imanaga from the competition
-- Secured one of the Top 5 managers in all of MLB

Busch sounds like Matt Mervis 2.0.
Or....................

Bill Buckner / Mark Grace 2.0. Not horrible!

(Sounds like they're indeed going to put him at 1B, as things stand right now. I sorta like the deal. Left-handed bat too. Although I also like Hoskins and Justin Turner for a 1-year stop-gap. I trust in Jed for right now.)

I'm not a fan, but I've been wondering why no Justin Turner talk. The dude can hit the ball

Mervis has never sniffed the rating of busch. Cub fans are selling him way short. he is the 44th ranked player in mlb pipeline

I think people are sleeping on the Busch trade a bit. The Cubs traded two teenagers for a top-50 prospect and an actual MLB reliever.

Almonte is remarkably inconsistent. Every other year, he’s bad, the others, quite good. The good news is 2024 is supposed to be one of his good years.

A trade well worth making for Cubs, but despite his prospect rating Busch is no sure thing. Dodger prospects seem to be routinely overrated (see Michael Vargas) probably in part because they had the back to back ROYs in mid 2010s, which looked like it might lead to another run like they had in mid-1990s when I believe they won 5 in a row. Still with some of the things he’s done so far in minors — one of only nine 2023 prospects to have 200+ PA | 12+% BB | Sub-21% K | .400+ OBP | .200+ ISO | 43+% XBH — he’s a worthwhile gamble for Cubs. Let’s just hope the reason that he didn’t debut in MLB until 25 years old had more to do with Dodgers ML roster than holes in his game.

Cubs to add elite No. 4 international prospect

The Cubs have picked up a Dominican shortstop prospect from this year's international market whose baseball instincts are far beyond his 17 years of age.

According to an industry source, the North Siders agreed to a $4 million deal with Fernando Cruz, MLB.com's No. 4 international prospect, as the 2024 signing period opened Monday. The club has not yet confirmed the agreement.

The Cubs forfeited $500,000 from their pool after signing Dansby Swanson, who rejected a qualifying offer from the Braves, leaving Chicago with a pool of $5.152 million.

Busch is a top-100 ready for MLB prospect. He’ll be in the starting lineup. Not sure if it will be 1st or 3rd base. That may still be yet to be determined based on what else they sin this offseason.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see him packaged in a future trade.
