Tucker for Wesneski, Paredes and Cam Smith.

Overall, I like it. It also means two things:

1. Bellinger or Suzuki are almost certain to be traded.

2. Unless a MLB-level 3Ber is doing back in that trade, Shaw will start the year with the big league club.
I also like it overall. Losing Smith may sting, but will sting substantially less if they can extend Tucker's contract. He's arguably a top 10 player in MLB. Open the wallet.

To your points:
1. Seems like the whispers are leaning Bellinger being dealt (NYY being the favorite).
2. I dig Shaw. Hope to see him thrive.

I think Suzuki has a no trade clause but I could be wrong on that. He doesn’t want be the full time DH.

Could just sign Bregman…

Suzuki does have a full trade clause. But he’s going to have to waive it if he wants to play outfield. Even if we assume Gold Glover Bellinger is traded, the Cubs will have Gold Glover Tucker in Right, 3x Gold Glover Happ in Left, and almost certain future multi-Gold Glover PCA in Center.

Suzuki’s immediate future with the Cubs is as DH, and with Cassie and Alcantara knocking on the door, his long term future is also as DH if he wants a long term future with the Cubs.

As for Bregman, trading Paredes to get Tucker and then signing Bregman to replace Paredes is the type of thing a big boy big market team determined to overwhelm its small market division competitors would do. So we can be sure the Cubs won’t do it.

If they trade Bellinger and Suzuki and promote Shaw, they still need another bat from somewhere.

The Yankees just got Williams from the Brewers. Makes me wonder if that frees up a pen arm to send to the Cubs for Bellinger.

Too bad we aren't a big market team. Then we could just sign a big bat and keep the prospects.

I dislike Bregman. He was the most obnoxiously gleeful cheater ever!

Busch can play 3B, if needed, until Shaw is ready.

Too much to give up for one year of Tucker. Take Cam Smith out and I’m ok.

They say Tucker will bring over $500,000,000. That definitely means that he is a one year rental. They are all upset about $20 for Bellinger. Tight basses.

Who is they? I don’t think he’ll get a 15 year contract (he’s not Soto) and even if he did, I think it still would be under $500M. I think we’re talking about 9 years in $250M to $280M. More likely the Cubs will look to sign his to a 4 to 6 year extension that would give him more money this year than he’d get in arbitration and allow give him time for another big contract in his career. I certainly could be wrong, but I just don’t see him getting a 15 year contract.

I think he'll likely end up with a top 10 aav contact, which puts him in the 35 - 51 million per year range. I wonder if something like 265 over 7 years gets it done.

Your numbers are probably better than mine. I just don’t see $500M like the original poster said people were projecting. He’s a year older than Soto I think and doesn’t have the same power numbers nor cache. His steals are nice, but he’s a good sized dude so those will come down as he ages. What I really like about him is he’s never hit 100 strikeouts, though he’s never been that close to 600 ABs either.
