I single them all out.

But the other thing about Sosa- he was selfish. He was a locker room buzzkill. Just ask Kerry Wood.
That's fair, definitely was a dirty era, just have a lot of fun memories from that time.

Bleacher Nation is GREAT! I check on it/ read it several times a day. I was talking about the (non) fan comments at the end of each article . The Cub's article comments (and the Bears) are almost entirely negative, gross, full of F words, and intellectually inept. I like comments that are spent on talking about baseball and how to improve the Cubs and the game, not insulting cub leadership and their sexual preferences.

I ran big companies before I retired and people like those commentators would be frog-marched out the door.
Thanks for the tip, I don't think I've ever read through the comments there but I'll save my time and avoid it.

I rarely read comments on articles cuz that is how they usually are. I read articles for news and possibly the expertise of the author. Don’t need care what a bunch of usually uninformed yahoos. That’s why I got a laugh from a post on here where poster showed some comments from an article after Tenn loss as “proof” the Illini brand was being hurt by not being ranked.

This trade doesn't move the needle at all for me. Junk for junk, IMO.

I still expect the Cubs to sign a first-guy-off-the-bench bat. Josh Rojas makes sense.

Also another starter. I expect they’re waiting on Sasaki’s decision before moving on to Flaherty.

I’d also expect a couple not horrible relievers. One from each side of the plate. Like Minter and Kahnle.

In the end, I think the Cubs will be mild favorites in the division. Project to something like 86 wins and a 3 or 4 game lead over the Cards and Brewers.

Just what we need, a light hitting 3B who will strike out over 100 times. Dude had one good season since coming up 2016. Hard pass...
Agreed. I don't think he'll strike out 100 times because he probably won't get 100 ABs due to being always injured (or dogging it). But, it seems right up Jed's alley: sign a reclamation project hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.

I know I tend to be the optimist in these threads, but I’m having trouble spinning only acquiring Vidal Brujan and Caleb Thielbar in the three weeks since the Bellinger trade as a positive.

There’s only 5 weeks left to Spring Training and the majority of the good free agents are signed. The Cubs are about $40 million below the luxury tax and around 14th in baseball in payroll.

some news for you: since November 2016, the Rickets are in this to make money, not to win Championships.
They know exactly where they need to be to win enough games to sell 3.000.000 tickets and they will be damned to spend any more than they need to .
This is no knock on them, just reality .

A totally different approach than Steve Cohen

Ask and you will receive. 😁

Seriously though, I’m hoping for another relatively big acquisition. Not like a Tucker move, but something above these types of moves.

This isn’t the same old same old. Even after the 2021 tear down.

Cubs haven’t had a payroll as low as it sits right now since 2014. Except for the 2 years after COVID when they were recovering from their so-called “Biblical losses” they’ve generally spent right up to the tax, occasionally going barely over like they did last year, but even in 2021 and 2022, the payroll was higher than it sits right now.

They’re about $50 million under the tax right now. If they were to go into the season with this payroll, it would be a different and, frankly, very alarming new direction without any obvious reason to make the change.

They're waiting for the big fish from Japan to decide. If not to the Cubs, they'll go after Cease (or someone like him, maybe a trade with Miami, Minnesota or Seattle) and a back-end reliever, plus a bench guy.

They're not done yet...at least I hope not!

Roki Sasaki news has been a slow drip of teams being eliminated from signing.

Thus far the Yankees, Giants, Mets, and Rangers have been dropped from consideration. That leaves the Mariners, Dodgers, Padres, Cubs, and Blue Jays.

My money is on either the Dodgers or Padres.

Need an International Draft so Japan's National Team doesn't turn into a feeder team for the West Coast teams

Not just about selling tickets any more. They need people to watch on Marquee which they won't do if they suck. Marquee has not been a money maker for them.

The geographic location of the west coast makes sense for players wanting to play closer to home.

That said, the Cubs do have two good examples of Japanese players on the current roster who can carve a strong role out on a non-west coast team (Suzuki, Imanaga).

Would love to be proven wrong!
