My guess is another RP or two. On the offensive side, maybe a bench player to add some versatility. Just don’t see them making a big splash. Hope I’m wrong.

Hello Cubs fans, was I dreaming or did I see the Cubs got some new alternate uniforms? A script "Cubs" tucked inside the C on corner of the chest.

some news for you: since November 2016, the Rickets are in this to make money, not to win Championships.
They know exactly where they need to be to win enough games to sell 3.000.000 tickets and they will be damned to spend any more than they need to .
This is no knock on them, just reality .

A totally different approach than Steve Cohen
Same mode of operation as the Wrigley’s and the Tribune. Pot of gold.

I listened to a radio interview this morning from the Cubs Convention. It was about payroll . It was either Tom Rickets or Crane Kenney who said Cohen has let everyone know he's losing 250 million a year and treats the Mets like a hobby - he doesnt care about the money and just wants a WS

At the convention today, Ricketts said he expects payroll to be just under the tax threshold, which means Hoyer has another $45 million to spend.

I’d like Ricketts to let Hoyer spend more money. I’d also like for Hoyer to do a lot more with the money he has to spend.

If some genius in the front office didn't put put them over the first threshold by less than $1Mil last year they could possibly go over this year and not have to pay the repeater penalty. Inexcusable to make that mistake.

If that’s true, then maybe Flaherty and Bergman on deals similar to Bellinger’s deal make sense. Or Santander.

The Cubs are stealing players from the Pirates' wish list. Makes no sense.
they're also spending like a small market Pirates team and I'm so tired of it. I don't know how Hoyer can honestly say "we're in a really competitive window, we have a chance to be really good". still no closer, no idea how Shaw will be if he's your starting 3B. no effort to even remotely try to compete with the Dodgers and Chicago is the third biggest market in the country. if I was at Cubs convention this weekend I'd be booing when Ricketts, Hawkins and Hoyer came out

Jon Berti is such a Hoyer signing. An all around ok player. Great speed. Good glove at multiple positions. No power, but decent OBP. Able to buy low on him because he’s coming off an injury-plagued season.

Nice insurance for if Hoerner takes awhile to come back from injury or if Shaw struggles. Raises the floor without raising the ceiling.

Edit - Berti is basically what the Cubs wanted Mastrobuoni to be.

So, I think these are your 2025 Chicago Cubs:

C: Amaya, Kelly
1B: Busch
2B: Hoerner
SS: Swanson
3B: Shaw
LF: Happ
CF: Crow-Armstrong
RF: Tucker
DH: Suzuki
Bench: Berti, Canario, Workman

SP: Imanaga, Steele, Taillon, Boyd, Rea
6th Starter/Swing: Assad
RP: Hodge, Pearson, Miller, Thompson Thielbar, Merryweather
Closer: Pressly

Brujan could beat out Workman.

If Canario isn’t the bench outfielder, I don’t know who else it could be. Caissie can’t play center.

Brown, Wicks and Horton will all start in Iowa to give starter depth.

Morgan, Roberts, Poteet, Little, etc could all start with the Big Team and I’m sure there will be a lot of shuttling back and forth from Iowa.

Fangraphs has the Cubs about 2 games in front of the Cardinals for top team in the Central.

Still need a proven bat at 3B. Too bad there isn't anyone on the market right now who could fill that void...
Presley deal likely killed any idea of a big FA signing for 3B. Have an uneasy feeling that we’ll just see a minor FA pickup and/or a veteran signed to minor league contract with chance to compete for job. Hopefully Shaw is nearly ready to take over as Cubs seem to think he is.
