I wonder what this conversation would be like if we were 10-17 rather than 17-10.

Different, but we are not. I thought we would be around 500 with the schedule we played so far. I said months ago that this is a 92-95 win team. With the Central being down, it could get closer to 98 wins.

I predicted second place in the division, and a game or two out of the last wildcard spot, because why wouldn't I?

I am hoping to be wrong, but there are still a lot of games for them to blow it.

From Wednesday: Cubs closer Ryan Pressly had his right knee drained last night, manager Craig Counsell said, which is why Porter Hodge saved tonight’s 7-6 win over the Dodgers at Wrigley Field. Counsell hopes Pressly will be available Friday for the start of a three-game series vs. the Phillies. He was not available tonight. Well maybe gave him the night off with a four run lead.

Well sure, my issue has always been with Hoyer.

Suzuki is a 6 or 7 hole hitter on a great team. We are not a great team. That's Hoyer's fault, not Suzuki's.

And hilariously enough, this would be the logical ideal lineup if we had signed Bregman:

Happ
Tucker
Bregman
Busch
PCA
Suzuki
Swanson
Kelly
Hoerner
Suzuki is the 23rd best hitter in baseball by wrc+ since he came to the States. There is no team in baseball where he is the 6-7th best hitter, not even the 27 Yankees. Why the hate for him? Did he sleep with your wife or something?

Too many examples to cite. Ian Happ works a 9 pitch at bat for a walk. Really makes it rough for a pitcher. Demoralizing to waste 9 pitches and walk a guy. Danger zone for a pitcher.

Suzuki first pitch pop out to right. Attaboy! Winner!

So I would like to know what you think of the putrid Dansby Swanson

Pretty embarrassing hitter in a cubs uniform but an elite short stop which obviously has huge value without a strikeout heavy pitching staff.

Last I checked Suzuki was so horrible at one of the easiest positions on the field to play defensively that he got put on the trade block and made permanent DH.

HIs defensive limitations are a legit concern, but complaining about his bat is just ridiculous. It makes you lose credibility with any other comments. And he was never really on the trade block-leaking that there was interest in him was just a play by Jed to try to convince other teams he didn't have to deal Bellinger.

Do you really think he's a good situational hitter? It's certainly not my imagination that he comes up with runners on consistently since he's been a Cub and kills rallies. It's a large reason why this team has not been good in his tenure. You really gotta watch the games, you can't just look at someone's stats. 2 hits today when the game was over, but that first at bat in the first inning really reduced their chances of winning a pretty healthy margin.

I think stats tell the story much better than someone "watching the game". Everyone has biases and they lead to the wrong conclusion.

For example, an AB where he makes an out in the 1st inning has almost zero impact on the Cubs chances of winning.

Especially when the pitching was the issue in yesterday’s game.

The immortal Dee Fondy played first base for the Cubs during my first trip to Wrigley in 1956. During the early 60s my father and I could walk up and get bleacher seats 5 minutes before the game because no more than 10,000 ever showed up to watch the terrible product on the field. I was at Wrigley when Kenny Holtzman threw his no-hitter in 1969, causing me to think there was no way the Cubs weren’t going to the World Series in October. I watched on television when an over-excited fan (won’t mention his name, I still feel for him) snatched a foul ball from Moises Alou, cheating me of the chance to watch a sure-fire trip to the Series. My neighbors heard my curses during the 2016 Series when over-managing the pitchers almost cost us the Series. I’m trying to say I’ve been a Cub cynic for virtually all of my 75 years. I didn’t think it was possible, but the commenters in this thread make me feel like a Cub Pollyanna.

By the way, watching the games has led me to believe Suzuki is not clutch and not a good situation hitter but Hoerner is.

According to Fangraphs, Suzuki has a negative -2.05 game clutch WPA. Hoerner is positive 3.43. Odd there’s a stat that aligns with my feeling watching the game.

0-4 with 3 strikeouts and an infield pop up for the absolute super star named Seiya

Clutch as can be, ice in his veins in these games that decide 82-80 or 88-74
