Cubbies bullpen really sucks……Hmmm…what happened to Palencia? Got the first two guys then fell apart?

I don’t think the decision was to hang a slider. Counsell said after the game it appeared Palencia got as the inning wore on. Maybe they’ve been using him too much.1)Instead of blowing a 101 MPH fastball letter high, he hung a slider. Not sure if Amaya called for it or if the game is called from the dugout? Terrible decision either way.
2)Either Tucker or Counsell had their heads up their rears because he(Tucker) was playing WAY too shallow. That ball barely hit the warning track. With two outs and no one on, you have to be playing no doubles.
3)I think Palencia thought the game was over and Tucker should have caught that ball(which he should have). He was obviously rattled. The next four pitches to the 9th hitter weren't competitive.
It earned Moises a demotion.Bad loss for Cubbies. On the bright side, both Moises and Shaw went 2-4.
Right move. He wasn’t going to get the ABs, so I’d rather see him playing regularly at AAA at this point. Hopefully seeing a bit of time in majors and finishing it on a positive serve him well we we can get him ore ABs.It earned Moises a demotion.
I'm not saying it was a decision to hang a slider, it was the decision to throw the slider at all. His fastball was filthy. He was rushing 101 up there.....why not stay with it?I don’t think the decision was to hang a slider. Counsell said after the game it appeared Palencia got as the inning wore on. I agree. That looked like a ball that should’ve been caught in left field. You always play deep in a situation like that, painful loss.
He’s actually leading league in RBI; he’s tied for lead in majors with Judge.I hate to bring this up again, but seeing this stat made me laugh. Seiya with RISP:
.345/.403/.673/186 wRC+
He's also tied for the league lead in RBIs. Obviously that says a lot about the Cubs lineup too.
You realize that means he fails 65% of the time, right? Pure Trash.I hate to bring this up again, but seeing this stat made me laugh. Seiya with RISP:

The strategy of the bunt in this situation is evolving into the DH/No DH baseball debate of the present time. :-DAnother series win BUT when you have a 1 run lead, runner on second with no outs in the 9th, you lay the ball down. No ifs ands or buts. It’s rare that I question CC but baseball 101 tells you to lay the bunt down when the pitcher is intentionally trying to get you to hit the ball to the left side of the infield. I do not care who is up. Swanson should have bunted to move the Busch to third. Now that changes everything. Miami will play in which would increase Nico’s odds of getting that run home. A 3-1 lead is a hell of a lot better than a 2-1 lead with Palencia coming to close the game out. Lack of fundamental baseball could have cost us today. But like I said, another series win and 10 games over
I get that but smart baseball says lay it down. The strategy of the bunt in this situation is evolving into the DH/No DH baseball debate of the present time. :-D
Still doesn't pass the JSmoke eye test though so it doesn't matterI hate to bring this up again, but seeing this stat made me laugh. Seiya with RISP:

Did you read the article? It talks about how he isn't playing that well, but he's been a key locker room guy especially for the young dudes. From the Cubs Website:
Why 40-year-old Turner has been key to Cubs' success
I mean, he's been playing a little better but........
Right. And the Cubs won the World Series because Heyward gave a speech.Did you read the article? It talks about how he isn't playing that well, but he's been a key locker room guy especially for the young dudes.
That speech helped. If it weren’t for the rain delay as well which gave us that speech, we would have lost the series., Maddon did just about everything possible to lose Game 7. Baseball 101 says never bring a starting pitcher in the game in a dirty inning. Never. He was so adamant about making sure Lester got in the game that he jumped the gun. Plus the fact that he completely overused Chapman which didn’t t help. Maddon is a mediocre manager at best. Never was a fan. He is the Bruce Weber of baseball except we actually won a championship.Right. And the Cubs won the World Series because Heyward gave a speech.
2 different things. I agree Maddon managed a terrible game. But do you really think Schwarber, Zobrist and Montero wouldn't have delivered those clutch hits in the 10th if Heyward didn't give a speech ?That speech helped. Serious question, I promise I'm not being snarky or sarcastic. Have you ever played organized sports at a high level? I played college baseball and I can tell you vibes matter, man. Probably in baseball more than other sports I played (basketball/football). I don't think the Heyward speech is what actually makes the hits happen, but it didn't hurt to have the rain delay/regrouping in the dugout. The momentum was completely in Cleveland's favor.Right. And the Cubs won the World Series because Heyward gave a speech.
Considering how I was feeling after Cleveland tied it up, I'm glad someone said something positive... All I could think was, here we go again... of course this is happening... We don't get to win, we're the Cubs.Serious question, I promise I'm not being snarky or sarcastic. Have you ever played organized sports at a high level? I can't imagine how many times I said/thought this during game 7Considering how I was feeling after Cleveland tied it up, I'm glad someone said something positive... All I could think was, here we go again... of course this is happening... We don't get to win, we're the Cubs.
It wasn't just the pressure of blowing a big lead in the 7th game of the WS, it was also the pressure of over a century of futility. All of the losing years created narratives of curses and scapegoats. The Goat, the black cat, Leon's error, Bartman, etc. Someone/something was going to get added to the list... Were any of those things solely responsible for the Cubs not winning? Absolutely not.
Was Heyward's speech a major factor in turning the game around? Who knows? In any case it's part of Cubs baseball lore now, and forever.
