First, apologies for a Southsider coming to the dark side for a post ahead of the games this weekend. Wanted to share that my brewery did a pretty funn collab beer with Gene Honda. His favorite style beer, and the label had to be orange and blue. If you hit Rate Field for the game you can get it at Marketplace 123, 154, 522, 542, and the Craft Corner. We did an IPA with Jeff (has worked w Sox for 42 years and is the unofficial Sox / Bulls historian) as well.

Hoping for a good series and Go Illini!!

Doesn't he still do the Blackhawks also?

RP market taking a bit of shape with Gregory Soto going from Orioles to Mets. In 45 games Soto has a 3.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Mets give up 2 pitchers — their #19 prospect plus a kid at AA.

McMahon to the Yankees. That put the Cubs in the driver’s seat for Suarez?
Whoever will pony up is in the driver’s seat. Really wondering what he will bring back. One thing that could work against the Cubs is that I’ve read AZ is emphasizing getting back pitching in their trades. Not a strength of Cubs system I still think Cubs will save their bullets to land pitching and improving bench.

As reported by Rotowire:

“ Taillon (calf) threw 47 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Taillon has begun throwing off a mound, and his stamina is already quite built up. Manager Craig Counsell said July 4 that Taillon would miss at least a month of action, and the pitcher looks to be on track to return around that one month mark. Given how far he is in the process of being stretched out, Taillon may not require many rehab starts if the Cubs decide to send him on an assignment.”

Hodge reportedly starts his rehab assignment tomorrow also.

Counsell is paid how much for his decisions? Shaw was hitting the ball hard and he puts Brujan in the order. McGuire is terrible, in general, but he gets Kelly's spot in the order. Then, move Happ, who is probably the worst hitter in lineup, up in the 5th hole.

Why to ANY of that?

Embarrassing baseball team. Get real players. As I mentioned, you’re not winning anything important with Seiya hitting 3rd or Imanaga and Taillion in the top 3/5ths of your rotation.

Saw reports that Cubs are interested in WSox’ Houser, whom I’ve mentioned. Yankees have expressed interest in another guy I’ve mentioned. Willi Castro.

Yet there seem to be some on here who don’t want to trade for SP — cuz, you know, it will cost prospects and we do have Taillon and Assad coming back at some point. 🙄
As long as we are still trotting out any one of the:

Rea (0.1 WAR)
Horton (-0.3 WAR)
Brown (-1.7 WAR)

Triangle of mediocrity, we could use an upgrade.

Assad hasn’t pitched in a game in 10 months. Hard to tell what he is going to look like whenever he gets back out there… if he gets back out there. (Setback after setback with him…)

Saw both of those rumors. Interestingly, Houser was in the Cubs org last year for a while. Never sniffed the bigs, though.

He’d be a cheap 2nd SP acquisition salary wise and likely relatively cheap prospect wise. Definitely need a better SP acquisition too, but I’d be happy with him as an improvement to the back end of the rotation.

For what certainly would seem like a sellers market, I haven’t been very impressed with the returns sellers have gotten so far. Big trend seems to be pitching prospects are the preferred currency of trades so far, which isn’t a Cubs’ system strength.
