I know I'll get pushback but I've got to say it.
PCA 0-4 with 2 K's and 0-2 w/RISP.
Misjudged a fly ball which became a triple that eventually scored.
Ran into Caissie on a ball Caissie was calling him off of, getting him hurt.
Another terrible game which is a reoccurring theme in the 2nd half.
I hope all the HR's in the first half didn't mess up his swing. He needs to put the ball in play to take advantage of his speed...the one thing that doesn't slump.
no push back form me except that the homers messed up his swing, I think he has always swung like that. His outfield control is low, his ability to chase balls down is absurdly high. With time he will be able to command the outfiield better in terms of calling of balls.

I agree. I wish he would become a contact hitter which we need. A single is a double with his speed. I would rather him be a 300 hitter than a 30 homer guy. We need contact hitters who can get on base as we have too many solo homers this year.

It's amazing that a team that is 20 games over .500 longest winning streak is 5 which they only did once in March/April.
I guess it helps that their longest losing streak is 3 (4 times).
I was going to post that I don’t remember ever being so annoyed at a Cubs team that was 20 or more games over .500 but then I remembered some of those Pinella teams were somewhat annoying in terms of their approach as well. I guess I’m jaded.

Considering he only hit .264 at AAA and .277 between AAA and AA, I’m not sure .300 is in the cards. But I agree, better contact skills would be nice.

It could be once he shows plate discipline. He swings at a lot of bad pitches as he is aggressive at the plate. He tries to lift the ball instead of driving through the ball and make contact. He needs to learn to go with the pitch and utilize the entire field. If he can tune in on looking for his pitch, he will be more successful.

I think your “could be once” maybe should be “could be if.” He’s still young, so improvements are certainly possible, and he’s had stretches where he looks like he could be a .300 hitter. But haven’t seen much to indicate he’ll be a .300 hitter for a whole season. Have to remember that currently there are only 5 guys hitting .300 this year. I’d take .275 to .280.
