Chicago Cubs 2026
Remember this game. It's WAY too early to talk about turning points, but the offense has to have had a HUGE sigh of relief.... especially Busch.

On the Locked on Cubs podcast last night they mentioned that PCA has 5 homers in his last 79 games. He's looked pretty bad at the plate this year, time to be concerned.

The Pirates gifted the game to the Cubs yesterday. They tried to do the same Saturday but the Cubs turned it down.
I was not familiar with this guy, probably because he wasn’t drafted until the 6th round last year and didn’t debut until this year. He was drafted out of high school in a slot with a projected value of just over $350k. The Cubs gave him a $2M signing bonus to get him to pass on his Texas A&M commitment.
The switch hitter has been playing primarily RF at Myrtle Beach (A), but at 6-0, 220, some questions whether he’ll be a corner outfielder long term. So far there are no questions about his bat. Very small sample size of 42 plate appearances (8 games), but he’s batting .367 with an OBP of .524. Has three xbase hits and only one strikeout. MLB.com has him as Cubs #7 prospect.

He looks like a slimmed down version of Dan Vogelbach to me...
It will never stop bothering me that the Cubs released Schwarber for nothing in order to save $3 million to replace him with Joc Pederson.
If Schwarbs can hang around long enough to add 125-150-ish more HRs, he’ll have a legit Hall case. (Everyone who’s hit 475+ without roids is in.) And if he goes in, it will be as a Philly.

Seems like such a good dude, too. I find it impossible not to root for him, though I wish he could be done with his revenge on us for the week...

I have his Cub Bobblehead from 2016. Hope he hits 700 HRs. Maybe it will be worth something someday.

I’m Kyle Schwarber
and I hit home runs
Man... not even close to a HOFer.
The low bar for a DH guy is David Ortiz, and even if Schwarber plays another 7 seasons at a 3 fWAR pace (which would be a steroid era type aging curve), he'd be like 15 career fWAR short of Ortiz. And career fWAR isn't really why Ortiz is in, it was his 5 year peak from 03-07 where he had a 157 wRC+ and 24 fWAR - Schwarber doesn't even have a single season hitting at that level.
I grew up agonizing over how a guy who was routinely scoring about 100 runs and stealing 60+ bases a season got away from the Cubs. Gave me childhood immunity from pining over lost players like Schwarber.
3000 hits and HOF. Cub management has made monumental errors. How about Greg Maddux?
Yeah, Maddux to me was worse than Schwarber. He was coming off a 20-win season and I believe his highest or second highest WAR of his entire career. Only redeeming thing about letting him go was we got to experience that great Atlanta staff.
The one that killed me the most because I was still relatively young was Bill Madlock. Coming off consecutive batting titles and still young. Cubs didn’t want to give him $100,000 and traded him for Bobby Fricking Murcer. Fun fact about Madlock; he was drafted by the Washington Senators.
Speaking of Maddux, who knew?
