The injuries in the pen have caught up with them. They've navigated it as well as possible, but when the league continues to see the same AAA caliber arms, it catches up. Outside of Palencia, there's not a major league arm on the roster.

I think everything has been mostly bad over the past couple of weeks.

It doesn't help when they are giving up 8-9 runs a game.
Here are the RISP stats prior to yesterday's 0 for 9. Two guys stand out, and Counsell insists on batting them fourth and fifth. Can't gripe about Swanson at .182 I guess - that's about what he is hitting overall.

Before this last 3 terrible game stretch, however, the pitching has held up despite the injuries.
RISP average was even subpar during some of the streak.
Seiya has to be guessing a lot. He takes pitches in the dead center of the zone.
Cubs are going to get swept out of first place by the Brewers. May end up in 3rd by the weekend.
I don't mind today's outcome. Misiorowski is a flipping stud. No way around that. He has a chance to throw a no hitter every night out.
Sunday vs the Sox and yesterday vs Milwaukee were unacceptable performances from both the staff and the lineup.
On Saturday and today, they just got bested by two pitchers who will be in the Cy Young discussion.
Facing deGrom, Sale, Davis and now Mis, in 4 of the last 6, is rough.

Hopefully a day off and a bad team coming to town can cure some ills.

Ouch. He seems to have two three to four week terrible slumps every season.
I don't even mean to slam Happ. It's the lack of a better alternative...or the manager.
He either gets really hot or really cold. There's no in between with him. You can put Seiya in the same category.
Bregman, Happ and Seiya as the 3, 4, 5 is what's killing the offense right now. The fact that Counsell hasn't split them up is just awful managing.
To date, both Seiya and Happ have over a 40% K rate with RISP. The amount of times that they get the first two guys on base in an inning and don't score(without the bad fortune of a double play) is insane. Pop up, K, K and the runners haven't moved.
Add Swanson and PCA being brutal, then not being able to hit the ball out of the ballpark...this is what you get.
The amount of runners that they've been leaving on is ridiculous.
