Nancy Faust was there playing the organ for his first hit, game winning home run. First of many let's hope.

I’ve been thinking about the timing and synchronicity of the very recent passing of one of the former really good Sox players – Chet Lemon – and the elevation of a South Sider to be the next Roman Catholic Pope. And here is such evidence:

Chet Lemon, talking about Chicago: “That city and that organization raised me... I learned so many of life’s lessons by being in Chicago.”

And guess what? These same things could likely be said by the new Pope. That’s what this City does. It makes you a big part of who you are as a person. And by doing that, you also help to make the City what it is.

Best wishes to both of these Sox-connected souls in their new realms.

From 35th Street all the way to places Unknown.
City of Big Shoulders.

The Sox did not do very well this weekend. A lost weekend for sure. But at least the young rookies got to experience the energy of the Crosstown Series and what these games mean to Chicagoland. This will be a bright spot for them during what is a long grind of a losing season this year.

And lately, Vargas has been looking like a useful Sox player for the future. If he continues to develop he can be a key to this club’s future.

Actually, there’s a very good chance at having a Subway Series THIS year!

Unfortunately... it would be held a bit East of State Street. Quite a bit.

Is there no respect?
The Colorado Rockies are looking to snatch our hard earned record!
And not by just a bit.
At their current pace, they will lose 7 more games than our beloved Sox' record.
It's a tough world out there.
And things are getting even worse!

Colorado fell to 8-42 -- the worst 50-game start in Major League Baseball's modern era (since 1901). Before that, you have to go back to the 1895 Louisville Colonels (7-43) to find a worse start.

The Rockies are 5-20 at home and on pace to lose 136 games this season, which would pass the 1899 Cleveland Spiders (20-134) for the most losses by an MLB team. By contrast, the Chicago White Sox set the modern-era record for losses last season with 121.

After today's 2-1 loss to the Mets, the Sox are on pace to lose 111 games this season . . . 10 better than last year.

And a lot of the losses have been by 1 run and late in the game. If we can continue to improve I think we can fight for 100 losses.
