Sox get a catcher — Joey Bart — from Atlanta. Not going to dazzle, but has some pop and believe he is a good receiver.

Cleveland has had a nice day adding a pitcher and two bats. Doesn’t seem like they are going to roll over. But I like what the Sox did. Filled some holes and didn’t touch their top prospects. I believe the highest ranked to head out was #8. Never know how the new guys will do, but I think they improved the team and Getz handled deadline very well.

Lots of trading activity went on today. Lots of ball clubs shuffling the deck to see if they can end up with better cards and a better hand. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not. But no club wants to look like they’re just standing still.

Trading top prospects away is always a gamble. As it turns out... many top prospects you trade away or bring in never do pan out up to their hype (can you say... Moncada, Jimenez?... and there are plenty of other examples in history). And every so often a ball club trades away a real megastar and gets burned bad. That has also happened to the Pale Hose.

But that’s what makes all this movement interesting. This is the day when all baseball fans really pay attention to the GM of their favorite club to see how sharp he may be and what he’s got when the bets gets placed on the table.

Now we all have the rest of the season (or more) to see just how good our GM brotherhood around the league is. Some of these GM will get job security. And others will end up with a different address in a couple months.

Let’s hope the new players the Sox now have will fit in well with the great young core that has already shown The Boys Can Play.
