Boynton signed Jeremiah Johnson for the 2024 class, always a promising sign

Normally, I would agree but I wonder if UM will give Howard one more year based on a few factors. His health issues this season forced him to miss a chunk of the season (and firing him might also be a bad look). Losing Hunter. I know one could argue that that is on him but nowadays with all the transferring, I am not so sure this wasn't beyond his control (seems to be beyond anyone's control). And third, McDaniel's academic woes resulting in the weird away game suspension. Something, I assume, that was also beyond his control. But what do I know?
With a contract buyout of $2/3M, I've got a beach house, complete with bailing bucket and water wings, that says he is gone. I also expect MI will pay the extra 1M to start the search earlier.

I might have been reading too much into it at the time, but I seem to remember press conferences where one writer kept asking Underwood and Holtmann about the other and Holtmann acted like it was ridiculous to consider Underwood in his league (again my feeling) and Underwood said something to the effect of “you’ve gotta remember Chris inherited a much better situation”.

1) does anybody else share my vague recollection?
2) Holtmann was generally negative about Illinois after Groce firing, but was there animosity between Holtmann and Underwood? Brad seems pretty popular in coaching circles?
3) most relevant, who did Holtmann piss off to get fired in the middle of February. It’s not like the typical timeline for getting the first spot in the carousel is gonna get them a better coach. Feels like camping out three weeks before the iPhone 16 that you can just have one delivered to your house on launch day.
AD Gene Smith is retiring in June after 19 years at the helm. Delicate transition to new AD after two decades and I'm sure they want ample runway for this coaching hire.

Dude is only the 8th AD in OSU history.

Ohio State won't find a better coach than Chris Holtzman. They have the players that are just not playing together.. Hope they get someone who leads like Michigan's coach. A big loser!

I find the demise of Ohio State almost as tasty as the demise of Michigan. I really do. The way they did Thad was pretty sh*tty. I like Thad. Damn good coach. He didn’t deserve that. This feels like karma to me.

I know it is a subjective deal. But it kinda seems like Ohio State has a track record of doing people dirty more than most D-1 Schools…

Even going way back….Bob Knight(take it with a grain of salt) b*tched for years about the way they did Fred Taylor wrong.

I understand the play. They want Bjork to usher in the next coach.

I don’t particularly care for Chris Holtman. But firing the guy before the season is over… seems a little over the top/ excessive.

In other news…If Holtman really did diss Brad…by implying he wasn’t on his level…well that’s a nice bit of karma too.

They did Holtmann dirty by firing him mid-season.

They did Thad dirty

They did Jim O'Brien so dirty that he won millions of dollars in a wrongful termination lawsuit

They did Randy Ayers dirty by firing him and then trying to short him on his buyout (he wound up settling for half)

Is there a trend here?

Oh right, good call. I totally forgot about O’Brien. Yeah that’s a classic example.

Somehow the Ayers-one…escaped my radar back in the day.

Thanks for the post on this. Yeah it’s official: Ohio State Sucks. Definitely a trend!

Totally depends on whether Geoff and/or Chester get jobs ...

Let's say they both do ... I'd say getting one of Mike or Antigua is right at 75% ...

I also would not put it above Brad to tell someone to kick rocks if it means he can get Antigua or Mike on staff ...
Kick rocks? As in someone on our staff? I would certainly hope that would NOT be Chester and I of course give Brad the benefit of the doubt that he is smarter than that.

Yes ... They will ...

Thad Matta, Sean Miller, Chris Mack, Lamont Paris, Mick Cronin, Porter Moser ...
Do you think Thad would go back there??

Say it ain’t so.

That’s way too close to the college guy that just won’t quit his abusive girlfriend…because he’s whipped and he lacks self confidence.

I hope that’s not him. Don’t do it Thad.
