I just have a really hard time seeing Drew or Billy at UK ...
Billy D has an NBA job for life basically with an owner that doesn't care about winning. Nothing he has done since he got to the league would get him another job there.

Is he cool with being mid for the foreseeable future or does he have a passion to win again?
The timing is bad ...

Being an NBA head coach is increasingly kinda meaningless in general, and there is no job in the league more meaningless than coaching the Bulls, about whom I don't even know what to say at this point.

They will absolutely fire Donovan at some point. And the timing, who cares, the play-in is meaningless.

It may be that Donovan is just totally uninterested in ever returning to college. But if any desire still burns for him in that regard, or if he just correctly recognizes there is a stronger market for his services at the college level, this is it, this is the moment.

I truly think that UK comes down to Brad and Sean … Dark horse that no one’s talking about: Todd Golden …

I think Drew stays at Baylor … I really do … Drew’s all like PRIVATE schools …

And I think Billy stays in the NBA …
I love Brad and I know that Kentucky is Kentucky, but at this point in his career.....why would you jump into that type of situation? Talk about going into a pressure cooker when it's not needed....outside of pride.

These other coaches aren't stupid. They aren't blind to the fact that being a blue blood doesn't carry as much weight anymore given NIL and the portal. The playing field, outside of UCONN apparently, is pretty equal. Look at the Final Four the last two years. These aren't household names playing for regionals anymore, which is part of Kentucky's issue.

Who knows....maybe he wants to chase the name and if so....God bless him.

Unless you're a guy in your late 40's or early 50's that's willing to deal with the chaos....Id run. The expectations are a whole different animal there. If you don't hit the Final Four, you're immediately on the hot seat. At most other schools, one Final Four and you're name is etched in stone for a lifetime.

Well, it would appear that you and many other probably undervalue Brad! It seems he is HIGHLY thought of in the coaching world.
I don't undervalue him at all, I would much rather have him than anyone on the Kentucky list other than Scott Drew or Donovan. But Brad's age is a factor too for a school like Kentucky I would imagine.

Isn’t that the landscape in CBB coaching? If I offered you the same job you currently do, but offered say 25% more money but you had to move would you say no?

I don’t get why anyone is upset when people (coaches, recruits, or players) decide there is a better offer out there.

I used to get mad when kids sat out bowl games… I thought they quit on their teammates, but then I looked at it from their prospective. Would I put my body on the line if I knew the was a LITERAL winning lottery ticket amount of money guaranteed to me as long as I stayed healthy? Same goes for finishing a degree, (I used to love seeing guys graduate) then I think about how much money Robbie Hummel missed out on by coming back for his senior year. (He has a pretty decent gig with BTN, but he missed out on at least 1 lottery pick contract)

I say IMO most humble opinion, if the money is there you take it 100% of the time.

I love Brad and don’t want to see him leave, but if the opportunity to lead UK comes and the dollars line up with the increased stress level then go for it! He has succeeded everywhere he has been and I don’t think he would fail at UK. Would he win championships? Who knows, but he would be successful.
Agree - I don’t think Brad leaves but he’s also earned the right to do whatever he thinks is best for his family.

The same for anybody anywhere. You got 75-90 years on earth if you’re lucky, every year is too precious to not do what you think you need to do. He spent a lot of years eating burgers instead of steak. If he wants to maximize his generational wealth for the family, that’s his business.

Also, while he’d be aware of the expectations and circus, I’m sure thinks he also thinks he can rise to the challenge just as he has at every stop. He’s not thinking taking the job “what happens when I go 18-13 and miss the tournament or lose to a 15 seed.”

All that said, I think he’s got this program rolling, a great setup to keep being paid as a top 5-10 coach, and a potential huge legacy for him if he can keep winning when you consider Henson has a court named after him with 1 FF.

Why nobody mentioned Lloyd here?

I think we can ...

But if it meant naming Tyler HC in waiting would you do it ?? (just a hypothetical ... I am not saying Brad would demand that) ...
1. Naming Tyler Head Coach in Waiting?!? HAHAHAHA
2. Hypothetically what if we had to name all the Pizza Hut parking lots in Champaign-Urbana after Brad, would you do it?

I am a hell no on #1. Funniest thing in this thread.
I am a hell yes on #2.

Underwood has rebuilt a respected program nationally, but it has yet to cross the threshold of elite. They may be short of options, but there is no way Kentucky fans and boosters will accept a coach with no final four appearances and so multiple early tourney exits.
Underwood is highly respected in the coaching world....more so than the fans seem to think.

At this rate (Oats out, Drew maybe out), how quickly do we think the Brad situation is going to come to a head? I have to imagine Josh would like to get Brad locked in by Thursday. Is that a realistic possibility?

Statement from Matt Jones this morning, seems like per our insiders their top three are unlikely. Which leaves us with the "much more wide open" group which I assume will include Miller and Underwood.

Kentucky will contact Danny Hurley, Billy Donovan and Scott Drew. My guess is they will make all three of them say no

Maybe they all do but they will try with all before moving to another group

That group is much more wide open and could include a ton of people

What has he done the in the tournament ? 2 sweet 16s and a first round exit when he's had a top 10 team every year ? Not good enough ...

And most schools don't want to mess around with getting all those foreign kids into school and then finding ways around getting them NIL ... It's a total pain in the 🍑 ...
And as you mentioned last night....it takes a certain type to coach at UK....gotta have a little MFer in you. You said it best with that.

Agree to disagree.

To me, you finish the job you said was why you came here: win a Natty at Illinois. The challenge of succeeding at UK seems dull compared to that, I think.

And money? Was that the goal? I thought it was: win a Natty. That's what I have heard time and again from Coach Underwood himself. That is not fanspeak. Once you're rich, how uninteresting to make your goal becoming richer yet, in my opinion. How much MORE satisfying is it to do your utmost to achieve a much more meaningful sporting goal: win a Natty. That would be a hell of an accomplishment.

I am not being confronational or critical. I am only spelling out MY feelings. I am trying to describe what I think I would do were I to have the great good fortune to find myself in a situation like the one Brad Underwood has earned for himself.

I agree, which is why I mentioned the UK fan base and boosters. They expect ELITE. Underwood is respected but factually, his record is not yet elite.

I've continued to think about that from our convo ... And the name that keeps coming to mind ...

Mark Pope is a name I have heard a number of times the last couple of days-I do think they land one of their top 3 guys though
my 3 UK friends are in agreement that he is who ends up being the next UK coach......he's an alum and his BYU teams play an up tempo style of BB............Just what I have heard and they are connected to the UK grapevine's inner circle...........
