TIFWIW but it sounds like there were differences in defensive and offensive philosophies as well as recruiting differences; highschool vs portal, between BU and Chet. Not many of Chet’s recruits panned out so that’s what may have caused the tension. @FI_8905 nailed this a couple days ago.

Elite 8 to this. We are an utter mess and IU and MI who were both in the dumpster have more momentum than us. WTH. This is on Brad!!! I will hold out hope but you just ran off an Illini favorite and his recruits. I’m sad regardless how this turns out.
come on man.
Chester was certainly not a fan favorite for 3 of his 4 years here.

Would you rather be an IU fan? Whoever they get, they have Woodson. We have Underwood.

Actually his freshman year was ok. He came off the bench and gave Dee a break and disrupted the opposing team with his Sincere Harris type of defense. It was his soph and Jr seasons when he was forced to start (because a certain coach couldn't recruit anybody better even after having 3 first team all Big Ten guards on 1 team) when it was obvious he wasn't a Big Ten starter.

I don't think that is accurate. People loved him for the same reason people love Sencire Harris right now. Fans, well many fans, love the high effort guys.

I think the breadcrumbs are there to understand why Chester left. Hamer runs the defense, Tyler runs the offense, so what does Chester do? Anderson is the top recruiter, and all of Chester's guys get recruited over. Underwood has gone full transfer portal. Speaking of Harris, he took the RS because we brought in Domask and Harmon along with DGL. So was Harris going to see any real minutes? If we're looking to bring in Morez, and Booth, and a 5, I could absolutely see where Hansberry says wtf, I'm gone. We're recruiting over Butler before he even gets on campus. Epps didn't get along with Underwood and left, so I could easily see Chester saying what am I doing here? How is this building my resume? It would make sense that he feels undervalued.

Every opening is an opportunity. Bring in someone better and no one will care about the loss anymore.

I’m sure it’s going to work out fine but I really hate to lose CF. His energy with the team was awesome. Always seemed to be a player’s coach that was well respected on and off the court. Maybe we’ll see you in the orange and blue again for a third time one day. Best of luck, Frazier. Always a fan, unless we play against you of course.

Well losing Chester (and possibly Amani/Sencire) sucks for sure, but it's not the end of the world. Gotta see how everything plays out before judging.

I'm assuming as well that Chester was a bit more pissed about Jase not being guaranteed playing time than was known at the time.

Man, not feeling this if Brad and him are leaving on bad terms. Chet is an Illini for life no matter what.
Chester doesn’t strike me as someone who’d guarantee playing time.
