Bigger name in coaching circles or Illini circles?

Hmm. All this time I thought CHESTER was an asset. Little did I know it seems that he was dragging us down, holding us back all this time!
Who said that? That's a temper tantrum post that brought no logic or value to a discussion.

Was Chester an asset? Absolutely. He brought good energy and he had a nice ability to find guys that could be molded into quality collegiate players and he could find diamonds in the rough.

Was he a program altering assistant that had irreplaceable recruiting ties to elite players, elite AAU organizations in critical recruiting areas? Absolutely not. Now, TA is that type of guy.

Was Chester a defensive/offensive guru who's X's and O's can't be replicated? Absolutely and obviously not.

Nobody is saying that he wasn't a quality guy. He was. The contention that he raised the program to a different level and we'll take two steps back without him is ludacris.

Like I said prior, if he had the type of credentials that I noted above, he would have had head coaching opportunities and a lot of them.

I'm certain that Brad's choice of a replacement isn't going to be tasked with elevating the program back to national prominence, where we dropped from given Chester's departure.

Geez.

He's not saying he was the principal reason. But clearly part of the reason. Now you get a new cog in the machine that helps you get to the next step.

No one individual is the entire reason.
Of course he was part of the reason, as he was on staff. Chester brought a solid skill set and obviously great energy. That can't be disputed. There are VERY few assistants, to me, actually elevate a program. I think losing TA would be a devastating blow. Like OA, he brings a whole different level of recruiting to the table.

I'm a Chester fan. He a nose to the grindstone guy that guys really liked. That's important, BUT it's not going to blow up an off-season of alter the trajectory of the program.

Not the reason
I am guessing philosophical differences. I don't believe Chester was upset that Butler didn't get guaranteed minutes. However, perhaps he had issues with the general approach of getting old immediately via the portal rather than building long term with high school recruits?

Or maybe he disagreed with specific portal targets, such as not pursuing Corhen over some other?

Or it could be he will just have a bigger role at WVA?

And now for a brief “Mutual of Omahaesque” interlude:

My daughter is a National Park Ranger at Yellowstone…you use the correct term, Bison…we actually don’t have Buffalos in the U.S.
The offspring are called “Red Dogs,” for obvious reasons…and now you know!

I sincerely hope I have not started another off-season Loyalty plunge into a side topic, but if so, you’re welcome?

*Also, if you’re wondering…both buffaloes and buffalos are accepted plurals…and yes, I teach English…did I just complete a pedantic trifecta?

Again, the reason why I'm here in April: @RabidDawgClassic pillow-talk memes and my Bethesda brother's naturalist discourses.

And, yes, my friends... I already enjoyed the bison dissertation during an Illini game TO when the Buffalo Wild Wings commercial appeared :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Now, if only Jim will wrestle a Florida Gator as Marlin Perkins provides detached commentary. (Before I typed "Marlin Perkins" I typed "Merlin Olsen" and then did quick confirmation search. This indicates how many decades it has been since I thought of either Merlin Olsen or Wild Kingdom.)

I realize that no one under 50 here likely has any idea (or will care) what I'm talking about. That's my value-add to Loyalty, such as it is.

What’s behind Jerrance’s leveling down? Any chance he can get back to being a top tier assistant/recruiter either here or elsewhere?

Teaching English must be a hell of a frustrating job these days
