Chester has done so much to show he loves his alma. He has every right to navigate a path he believes will get him the head coaching job he wants. It was a really lovely thing to have him back for a few years. I wish him nothing but the best. He's an Illini for life and I'll be cheering for him to succeed at every stop he takes. Unless he's playing us.

It’s a lot shorter flight from Morgantown to the DMV area where Chester likes to recruit and has a lot of connections.
He has a better shot at being seen as the guy behind the guy on that staff. That’s the region he is most likely to get HC looks.
No doubt Chester loves the U of I. It doesn’t mean this was the best place for where he is in his career.
Of course, I actually know nothing about it…

I love Chester but I'll say this:
Illinois is in a better place now than when they hired Chester. Yes, they were coming off a #1 seed that off-season, but Illinois as a brand is better established and proven now.
Illinois is a top 15% power 5 team and and I don't know that Chester is a top 15% assistant. In other words, Chester is great, but Illinois should absolutely be able to upgrade.
