Leave us out of it, if Frazier can bring Hansberry, Harris, Epps and Jase Butler to WVU, probably a situation of immediate improvement with Tucker DeVries transferring there with his dad, what a coup for WVU and what a coup for Chet’s reputation and HC visibility.

Taking emotion out of it, if that comes to pass, I can completely understand his reasoning for leaving. Those are his guys and he feels like his owes those guys every opportunity to play. Everyone's view on the portal is different. Painter has huge success just dabbling in the portal to fill gaps(let's see what happens with no Edey). Izzo obviously hasn't bought in and seems to be struggling. Oats built an entire roster based on the portal.
Over the next few years, more clarity will be had as these coaches will see trends and development when it comes to roster building. I personally believe that living in the portal is unsustainable. You have to develop your prep recruits, then supplement. With that comes probably a one year rebuild. Many fan bases won't accept that.
We'll see how things break going forward. Hoping that this off-season chaos slows down across the country, but I'm a traditionalist. Good luck to Chester.

Yeah, Trilly Donovan has been discussing this. It's not a done deal by any means, but Brad is trying to convince OA to come back to Illinois for a bit now. We'll see.

I think the portal is the only way to go. We can build super teams each year. I think freshman, unless 5 stars, should go to mid majors for a couple years, then we can poach them in their prime. I love this portal era!

I'm right there with you except for the Epps part. If he really wants to show he's HC material, it is important to show not only who you can attract, but show you know who not to bring on your team. Epps is just never going to be a team building block. It's just not in him.

Change happened in cbb. I'm happy we have a staff and resources to adapt in this changed world. We are using mid majors as development teams.... If you are smart. It reduces variability on the court by a lot but requires more behind the scenes ego management.

I casually looked through 3 WVU blogs to see what they were thinking and only found one had announced Chester, which currently has zero comments. Either they aren’t an active fanbase online or they weren’t particularly moved. How lucky we are to have this forum for Illini fans, even the crazy ones.
