I would think that U Conn would hire an East coast guy or hire within if Hurley left for the Lakers. That’s what they have always done historically. Didn’t they have a top notch assistant get a head coaching job in recent years or am I dreaming?

Didn't Hurley joke that the Mrs. would up and leave him if he took a job outside the northwest? Now go all the way to the west coast? I can't see it happening.

But watching him implode at the NBA would be fun to watch. He would have to totally change his approach and I don't think he's humble enough to change.

Seeing as I can't stand him, I'll help him pack for LA and watch the fun.

I read somewhere that the average lifespan of a NBA coach with a team is a year and a half. That's crazy.
The reality is, they'll pay him so much he can keep his house on the East Coast (and buy 10 more) where the wife can stay; I'm sure he's rarely home. Heck, she can fly out every weekend if she misses the guy.

I guess the point is, I bet location is much less of a factor than we all think, especially with the money they'll throw his way.

With the current NIL and transfer rules, he'll probably work much less in the NBA and can spend time wherever he wants in the offseason and won't be out recruiting.

"Hurley has described a willingness to potentially one day coach in the NBA, and he reportedly has told the Lakers he wants to explore the “full picture” of a potential union. Hurley said “I think college has become like the G League in a way. It’s obviously tongue in cheek,” he said. “The college game has changed. … I’m more worried about burnout than going to the NBA.” ”If the right situation [came along] where an organization wants a tone-setter to come in and instill a culture, young players and an organization that wants to pursue championships [I would be interested].”

Hurley sees coaching in the Pros as a new challenge he has always aspired to and college coaching has become much more stressful with portal and NIL. Depends if Lakers or another Pro team will hand him the keys and leave him alone to instill a new culture and mold a champion.

I'm torn on this. I'm sure I'll be in the minority here but I would hate to lose Hurley to the NBA. The college game needs huge personalities that are very good at their jobs. Think of Duke. I loathed Coach K but beating them in MSG this season would be infinitely better with him still on the sidelines rather than Scheyer. The college game is in a perilous stretch right now and the stronger it can be the better it is for all of us.

All that being said, a year or two of Hurley inevitably clashing with an aging Lebron would be entertaining on night in and night out basis.

Good point. Coach K did turn down the Lakers job back in the day, but also lead Team USA for awhile…maybe he could’ve made the leap. I’m not sure Hurley’s style translates to the pros. I’d prefer he stay at UCONN because I fear they’d come for Brad if he left…feeling paranoid.
I don’t think he’d be on their list in particular outside of just that he is a good coach who is not uniquely tied to his school (vs a guy like painter). They’ve also avoided splash big name hires the past 2 go-arounds.

I also doubt that steam rolling us in the E8 helped that cause to want Brad either.

Are you thinking of Ollie taking over for Calhoun?

Why would he implode? The last two guys who had repeated NCAA champions or finals, namely Donovan and Stevens, have been at least mediocre or decent in the NBA

Good points. In fairness to us, LaTulip said that was the most dominant team in terms of margin of victory in tourney history. Everyone got pounded; ours hurt for sure though.

Donovan and Stevens are less screamy than Hurley.
And that illustrates my biggest question about Dan Hurley in the NBA. If he coaches in the NBA and doesn’t succeed, it won’t be because of playing style and tactics. It will be because he can’t adjust his personality and style to effectively manage professionals.

His issue won’t be knowledge. It will be soft skills/emotional intelligence.

...even better, about Bronny's minutes

Don't care much what LeBron says publicly on Twitter, no way he can play for this guy (and I don't think Hurley's act is going to fly with NBA players in general either). But, who knows, maybe he goes into it knowing he needs to chill out a bit.

Kimani Young, current Associate HC, will/would be named Dan's replacement. It was discussed at length today on various sports talk shows when the news broke this morning.

Blast from the past. Wasn't he rumored to be in the running for AC at UI the offseason a few years ago?

Hurley turning down Kentucky is one thing, turning down one of the top 5 coaching spots in all of sports is another.

This would pretty wild considering the timing.
This would be a money grab and only that. He wouldn’t last long. Even the best NBA coaches don’t last long with a team. He would be back in college in no time. From a coaching standpoint, it would be a bad move IMO, because he wouldn’t really be the coach. Bron would. Ha.

LeBron coaches have a high fire rate for sure. However, NBA coaching money is serious and could be a reprieve from the ridiculousness that is portal era college basketball. Somehow, things have swung soo hard because of the NCAAs years of stupid policies that the NBA and all their free agency woes look like a model of stability.

The Lakers are going to have to throw silly money at Hurly in order to get him away from UCONN. If you're Hurley, you can look at this as the chance to take care of your family's financial security for a couple of generations no matter what happens with your team on the court. I couldn't blame a guy for jumping at that chance.
