Depends on the job … But it’s not a big secret that Brad’s agent throws his name in the hat for jobs …

I do not think Josh would make some crazy offer to retain Brad at this point … Anywhere Brad goes would likely be a downgrade … He would thank him for what he’s done, wish him well and immediately start the search … He’s a top 10 paid coach with top 10 NIL, top 10 fanbase, and a top 10 facility … If he ain’t happy here then that’s on Brad is likely the thought Josh would have …
With only top 25 results to show for it.

Good regular season coach but what about march?

Elite 8 is great but we gave up a 30-0 run with a brutal gameplan. down 5 I think at halftime with no adjustments. One of the easier paths to the elite 8 your gonna get. The team with ayo and kofi should of won a ring.

IMO brad is a high floor type of coach, with the lack of X and O or ingame adjustments are you gonna make a natty? thats the end goal of all of this. Plenty of programs would settle for being in the tournament every year but were paying top 10 NIL and hes the 8th highest paid coach.

Im worried about the lack of fire and intensity. Is he just content with making an elite 8?

So much gloom and doom.
Coming into season where we returned 1 pseudo starter Ty and 1 bench player DGL we expected a rebuild or reload
9 new players.
We are 17-10, 7th in B10 will make NCAA (barring total collapse). About what most people expected.
Freak injuries/illness to KJ, Tomas and Morez cost us couple wins. Happens to everybody.
It did not help that Ty redshirted. Team could really use him but thats on him.

We are putting maximum effort. Its a chance for Riley to be a star. Its a chance for Tre to get back in rotation. Its a chance for DGL to become a starter. Its a chance for Carey to win some minutes. Its a chance for Ben to go from average to very good.

I am excited about rest of season. When the going gets tough the tough get going. I don't think Brad will let the team quit.

This is the way!

If Brad refuses to make staff changes … I have to disagree …

This will be an interesting conversation to see unfold after the season. Rightfully so or not, he has had a month's worth of excuses as to why the team is underperforming that is not related to how his coaching staff has performed. Will he continue to lean into that if Whitman asks him to make changes, or will he actually acknowledge that changes might be the move the program needs??

I will take him back at Illinois.
Fine. OK. Would Self as coach of Illini beat Arizona at Rosemont or NC in 2005 final? Crazy question, I guess. Unanswerable. Congrats to Coach Weber and the guys.

And why is that? I've been in an industry for nearly 20 years, last 10+ in a leadership role where hiring and retaining people. Culture drives people wanting to continue being in a place.

We seem to have a lot of people, players and coaches, wanting to move on for some reason, or another.

I guess the question more so is.... is Brad does refuse to make staff changes, how will Josh view it.
Brad will most certainly replace Kwa. He's there strictly because TA left. The staff as it is will not be the same. If you exchange Kwa for a tier 1 AC, then you're back to where you were.

The question is what will happen with Tyler and Hamer. We need an offensive and defensive guru. I'm sure one of those will be Kwa's replacement. So that probably leaves Hamer being replaced for the other. Then you have:

OA
Geoff
Offensive guy
Defensive guy
Tyler, back to a learning role

Doesn't Underwood have somewhere to send Tyler? A colleague that would take him on in some assistant role? Maybe even take on more responsibility at a mid-major somewhere? He's gotten some years in working with dad- it seems to me like it would be a good time to find some diversity in his training and resume. Maybe gain some credibility on his own? IDK...I didn't love the nepo-hire and still don't.

Tyler would benefit, professionally and reputationally, by serving as an assistant with someone like Bill Self. It would be great for the kid, and his dad's contacts and rep ought to be perfect for lining something like that up. Just not with another B1G coach!

#366
Tyler has to be off staff completely IMO. Brad has contacts...can get him a lateral to alot of HMs. You can't demote a guy and expect his dad to not treat him as the position he was demoted from.

What great offensive mind will want to be undermined by the coaches son who was filling your position the year before...

While I agree with you, I don't think there is ANY chance of Tyler going backwards. He'll likely stay in his spot (and just change the name of the role) to cover it or move on.

Boom... but the thing is, can that be worked out.

The question is what will happen with Tyler and Hamer.

Tyler should be told to find another AC job but at minimum should be the 5th assistant in a learning capacity …

Hamer should be fired … Period …
Over the past 30 days, we are 112th in adjusted D efficiency, 128th in eFG% defense and 336th in 3PT% defense … Absolutely pathetic … Absolutely unacceptable …

If you don’t think Sean’s an elite coach … I got nothing for ya …

His resume makes Brad’s look JV … Period …

I like Brad but his resume doesn’t stack up with the other 15-20 coaches I’d say are “elite” … I think the potential is there to get to that point but he’s made 1 run since he’s been here …

Given their resumes then why do you think that you've heard that Brad's name is on UNC's shortlist and Sean's isn't?

Carolina has hired Matt Doherty, Bill Guthridge, and Hubert Davis in the not-too-distant past. They aren't exactly a prime example of a program making smart coaching hires. And no one is saying Underwood isn't a good coach. It's just that Sean Miller is considered one of the best in the business.

This isn't a ROI business. There are many programs that would pay top-10 money to guarantee top-25 results. Ask 2019 Illinois fans what their financial threshold would have been to bring the program back to Self era performance.
To wit there are 11 teams to be in kenpom top 25 at least 4 times the last 5 seasons (if season ended today):

Houston
Gonzaga
Tennessee
Alabama
Arizona
Purdue
Baylor
Duke
UCONN
Illinois
St. Mary’s

If we’re replacing Underwood odds are stacked against us if we think we’re gonna get an upgrade.
