I like to imagine there is a number of sports media figures that lurk here sifting through our goofy puns, .gif's, scalding hot takes, and random references to cottage cheese, etc.......just to find our Loyalty Insider™ posts so they can then "break" the stories.
I'm wondering if @Indy Illini Fan might secretly be Goodman since they frequently post the same thing at the same time. He just likes to drop it here first.
🤣

That's what their interns are for....

I always thought he was a great guy, good x/o s guy, but couldn’t recruit. In retrospect I can see he had some bad luck and not much support here. If he got another try at a big job, I would root for him.
Lol, didn't have support here?

He was the first coach here to miss the tournament for 4 straight years and was a huge step down from Weber who was an average power conference coach with his own recruits.

I think he meant that the AD (Thomas) gave him non-competitive resources relative to the rest of the Big Ten.

I understand money was being spent on players but Weber seemed to run a clean program(was refusing to cut his hair in protest at one point).

Even missing out on the big recruits there were plenty of under recruited guys he could have built around in that era.

Van Vleet was around that time and went to Wichita State for example.

Groce just wasn't a good Big10 coach and his teams lacked any sense of discipline as was evident by all the legal trouble(Nunn, Black, Head, Tate, etc.)

If Chester Frazier doesn't get the HC job is he gone? Don't see a new HC coming in and accepting an associate coach with that power.

Yeah, he seems like a good guy but he was subpar in basically every way.

His strength was recruiting. But even that wasn't a strength because he couldn't assemble a functional mix of players.

He wasn't an x's and o's guy because his teams never out performed their talent level.

He wasn't a culture guy, because as you pointed out, our culture was terrible.

He was in totally over his head.

And getting nitpicky, but I never liked his "Why not Illinois?" line. Made us sound like such a mediocre program. Like there's no reason to think we should be successful but there's also no reason we couldn't hypothetically, theoretically, eventually, be marginally successful if we're lucky.
