wonder if Lloyd would move from AZ?

But can KU and Duke hold that longer term not being in either B1G or SEC?
Ironically yes, because they can get away with under-funding their football teams and prioritizing basketball instead in this new post-House settlement environment. Not being a B10/SEC school may end up being a benefit for top basketball programs.

I'll let others address Underwood's contract language, but aside from that he's just shy of 1 year younger than Self. Obviously health matters, but it's highly unlikely Kansas would be interested.
Illinois last season thankfully locked up BU pretty tight. I believe one of the highest buyouts in college bball??

Interesting quote there …
Unless Self gets a really strong bill of health, I don’t see why he’d come back. He has zero left to prove, and he’d have his pick of TV studio jobs if he wanted to do that.

If I had to bet right now, I’d say he’s done. But I’ve been wrong a lot this weekend.

I know that Self said he's coming back but he's had all sorts of health related issues the last 5 years. He's also not going to say publicly that he's not coming back due to recruiting and lots of other issues.

If the Kansas job opens, do we need to be worried about Underwood going there? I know this has been talked about before but I feel like we're 20 minutes away from this becoming an actual issue...

Can anyone share any insights?
Underwood isn’t a top 15 coach and he’s in his 60’s. Kansas has no interest.

I don’t think Syracuse hiring Gerry McNamera is very smart at all. That’s just continuing more of the same for them and he hasn’t had that much experience either. Even the last years of Boeheim werent that great.

Don't forget about every UNC fan on the internet that thinks they can pull Brad Stevens
The only reason Brad Stevens has a higher probability of coaching UNC than any of us on here is because he once coached college basketball.

Anyone seriously thinking a NBA president and GM-particularly one in that role for the Celtics-is coming back to college basketball is not grounded in reality.

Top-5 conference support for Syracuse sounds more impressive than what that actually means. They are going to be comfortably behind Duke, UNC, and Louisville, then after that it’s a lot of bubble teams. McNamara is going to have to be a really good coach to be a consistent winner with that level of support.

Don’t think Brad is leaving for Kansas … And I don’t think they’d be interested …

There was a time when there was a school of thought that leaving Illinois and taking the job in Kansas was a step-up. That wasn’t true then. And SURELY isn’t true now, or will be tomorrow.

Going to Kansas or North Carolina or Kentucky or such places is no longer the holy grail of College Ball. The old legacy nameplate are not magic dust anymore.
NIL and The Portal have leveled the field – and there are now lots of desirable places that a great coach can enjoy their craft. And players who are no longer hyponized just because certain programs once dominated College Ball.

God Bless The Portal.

agreed - NIL/Revenue sharing have taken a lot of the shine off those historic blue blood jobs. Granted there are coaches that appreciate the challenge and prestige, but the expectations from a UK/KU/UNC don't feel commensurate with the reality of how the sport works now.

The brand still has value but the priority now is NIL funding. Jobs like Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, UConn are still going to be elite jobs because their administration and donors care a lot more about basketball than football.

Kansas has a budget crisis right now and a lot of stakeholders are asking why athletics is continually taking money from the university side at unprecedented levels (compared to other P4 schools). Anyone taking that job will likely want to know more about that situation, but it's still a blue blood job because of the tradition, donor support, basketball prioritized over football.

"You want me to leave my highly-paid position running the basketball operation for the flagship NBA franchise that I've built into a perernnial championship contender to start negotiating multi-million dollar compensation deals with 16-year-olds and their 'handlers?' All for the benefit of a fan base living in the past who'll blame you for every recruit that doesn't turn out to be Michael Jordan?"

"Uh, did we mention that in just one year at our institution, the guy widely acknowledged to be the greatest coach ever in his professional sport saw his reputation get ravaged thoroughly, and likely permanently?.......Hello??"

Wes Miller to Charlotte.

To think UNC fans wanted him badly a few years ago

Underwood has said that coaching with his son and having his family around has been great. Said during the early years he spent a lot of time away from them. At his age do you think he wants to go back to that? He has his assistants traveling the world recruiting and his son on the bench with him. Also has the best BIG record in the last 6 years. His opportunity for legacy is right where he is now.
