i think it went down before the tournament, but bill frieder got kicked off the michigan sidelines for flirting with arizona st. he ends up taking over there and fisher wins the title at michigan in “89.
crazy that michigan lost a coach (johnny orr) to ia state, then a coach to az state. bo was a cheapskate

Obviously want Illini to win the national championship, but it would look very strange if Arizona won the title and then proceeded to lose their head coach.

Makes me happy with coaching situation (and Athletic Department) that we have in Champaign.

That’s all Josh Whitman … There is NO ONE in this country who does it better …

Legend … Statue …

Living in Charleston, I'm pretty excited about Groce coming here. He was a bit over his head at Illinois, but has done very well at Akron. He is personable and a good human being, which immediately puts him ahead of Mack. He has a very good chance to be successful at CofC.

As an aside, you have to wonder what his tenure here would have been like if he had closed the deal with either Demetrius Jackson or Jawun Evans.
His downfall was directly attributed to failing to secure top guard play IMO. Wish him well.

Don’t forget Jalen Brunson !

UNC and Lloyd working on terms … I think that one gets done unless AZ significantly steps up and fixes the issues Lloyd currently has with the situation …
What happens if AZ wins it all?

UNC has a 600 million plus remodel to the Dean Dome on hold, potential brand new stadium where you can add a few more hundred to that million.I know money comes from other places, but that is a lot of do-re-mi. Gotta pay Tommy and money for a roster.

As an Arizona Alum (but lifelong passionate Illini hoops fan), there are two reasons that I can see giving TL the inclination to leave Tucson. However, they are short term and the bottom line is I think he will rue the day he ever did if it comes to fruition.
1. At the moment, the purse strings have been tightened at U of A due to the 70 million that went missing from the school budget a couple of years ago, not to mention the added scrutiny as a result. I know nothing but this is not nothing.
2. The new AD, Desiree Reed-Francois, may brush him the wrong way. She is far more of a bean-counter than a coach. Again, I know nothing but am familiar with the issues this can provide.

But in the long run, going to Carolina would not be a great move that it might seem at the moment. And yet, to the young, the grass always looks greener...and in Arizona, there isn't much grass and it is not very green most of the year. But the hoops are the same size...as are the basketballs, lanes, courts, etc. And the sun rises bright and crystal clear over the Ricon Mountains almost every day....and those orange blossoms make the place smell like Heaven in March.

Why would Lloyd leaving hurt AZ in the tournament? All of their guys are gonna be gone regardless.

Bradley, gone. Peat, gone. Burries, gone. Krivas, gone. Dell Oreo, gone.

I guess the only guy is Kharchenkov.

It was brought up in last week's now-locked carousel thread, but this board wasn't the only ones to mention the LSU craziness....

Given the things I've heard about Reed-Francois and the deep financial hole that Arizona athletics is in, I wouldn't count on them making a successful competing offer. But stranger things have happened.

Ever heard the Radiohead version?

(Now that’s a cover. Never heard that before. That’s up there with Sonic Youth’s Carpenters cover.)

Lloyd would do well at North Carolina. I really dont like that. I like seeing them flounder.

PS: Can someone explain to me why so many people refer to North Carolina as the bluest blue blood?? They tend to say it so confidently too…like it’s not even a debate.
All I’m thinking is:
