Zooker was far too clueless to ever sustain anything.Zook pulled this off from 2005-2008. That initial staff was excellent. Then the coordinators left, Zook couldn't adequately replace them, and the recruiting declined.

Literally everyone: this is a terrible idea.
Looooool
Nick Saban, Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll . . . Although one could argue that Saban was not that successful with a 15-17 record with the Dolphins. It will not be a long term thing and while it excites people much as the Lovie hire did it’s hard to name many successful NFL coaches who went back to collage and were successful.
If the Dolphins' medical team didn't ixnay Brees's bill of health, I am sure that we would talking Saban in same breath as Carroll and Jimmy Johnson in successful college-to-NFL coaches.Nick Saban, Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll . . . Although one could argue that Saban was not that successful with a 15-17 record with the Dolphins.
Gene Stallings was fired as HC of TAM, went to the NFL and was so so as a HC, went to Bama and was successful.Nick Saban, Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll . . . Although one could argue that Saban was not that successful with a 15-17 record with the Dolphins.
Because not offering a 10 win(including CCG win) coach an extension is program malpractice.Anyone know why Marshall didn't want Huff to remain as HC?
He has had a good career so far.
Every one of those guys had significant college coaching experience before going to the NFL. This will be Belichick's first job in a college program.Nick Saban, Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll . . . Although one could argue that Saban was not that successful with a 15-17 record with the Dolphins.
True statements, although I was answering the initial query which didn't have those stipulationsEvery one of those guys had significant college coaching experience before going to the NFL. This will be Belichick's first job in a college program.
Also, none of those guys did it in his 70s. In fact, Saban and Carroll are the same age as Belichick and are retired from coaching.
I wonder if the portal would get any action if players signed for Bill and he bailed before the season? I'm sure UNC would be fine. HeheheLooooool
He can bail for just $1 million without coaching a single game.
I really thought Mullen would end up at Purdue.
He looks deranged in that photo
Every one also had significant nfl experience prior to going back to college for their successful stretches, if they didn’t have any already. Saban didn’t succeed mainly due to his style. Oversimplification but in college you’re the dictator, nfl it’s more like offering strong suggestions.Every one of those guys had significant college coaching experience before going to the NFL. I know a lot of people also think the new system is "basically just the NFL" because of NIL and transfers but there are some key differences.Every one also had significant nfl experience prior to going back to college for their successful stretches, if they didn’t have any already. I don’t think it will work out well, not because of age but because I’m not sure of bill’s true agenda. Just seems like a vanity project… ‘look what I can do’. Remember the Herman edwards experiment at asu? They tried to model that after an nfl franchise also. Didn’t work too well.
I think the fact that he is A) looking for a job and B) Had to drop down to NCAA to find one shows that he cannot. I don't think it's that his mind is gone but he surrounds himself with his own proteges creating an echo chamber where he doesn't learn anything new/ be challenged.I know a lot of people also think the new system is "basically just the NFL" because of NIL and transfers but there are some key differences.
1st, everyone has the option of FA every season. That's not the case in the NFL. You could argue that helps a guy like Belichick, but on the other hand those successful Pats teams always had a lot of key pieces sticking around. Might be tougher to do that at UNC.
2nd, in the NFL everyone basically has the same pool of money to play with. At UNC, I know they've said they'll increase NIL, but will they really keep up with Miami, FSU, and Clemson (to name some ACC opponents)? I'm skeptical.
3rd, there's no Tom Brady in the NCAA. There probably never will be. Belichick is 83-104 in games coached without Brady as his QB. For all his success, he's never done it without having the greatest NFL QB of all time on the field. And overall the level is different. Players aren't as fast or as strong as they are in the NFL. That will require some adaptation on Belichick's part. At 72, can he adapt?
me tooI really thought Mullen would end up at Purdue.
Yeah, unlv should be solid going forward. Mullen can coach. Plus he’ll probably stay at least a few years with a team that’s already rolling. If the fertitas chip in some dough again, no reason that shouldn’t continue.I like UNLV Mullen hire much more than BB . Proven college winner at multiple P4 jobs. Florida may have pulled the trigger too early on him. His successor is Billy Napier is 18-19 in 3 years
....Mullen, 52, last coached with the Gators in 2021, when he was fired after four seasons with a 34-15 record, an appearance in the SEC championship game and three New Year's Six bowl games. Before that, he had a 69-46 mark over nine seasons at Mississippi State.....

Mullen was actively talking about how much he hated recruiting when he was at Florida. That doesn't fly at a program that has a national championship ceiling, despite not being at that level for awhile now.I like UNLV Mullen hire much more than BB .
