re Alford, you confused Iowa with MizzouSometimes higher is not better
Steve Alford SWMiz->Missouri->UNM->UCLA
His best years were at UNM
Mullen might prefer to keep winning MW titles at UNLV as opposed to getting fired for 2 mediocre seasons at Florida

not disagreeing but 8-4 is better than any record over Napier's 3yrs. im too lazy to look it up but its be interesting to see the relative success for schools that fire incumbent coaches with winning records. Nebraska and Wisky immediately come to mind (though granted the fickell experience is still early on)Sometimes higher is not better

Mullen's recruiting fell off hard if I recall, which is why I'm surprised everyone thinks he's going to be a good fit at UNLV.not disagreeing but 8-4 is better than any record over Napier's 3yrs. im too lazy to look it up but its be interesting to see the relative success for schools that fire incumbent coaches with winning records. That is vibe among Gators fans. He is pure game planning coach and wanted an NFL job. Ironically under a system under a GM are huge warchest, Mullen might do great in a P4 job in a few years.Mullen was actively talking about how much he hated recruiting when he was at Florida. That doesn't fly at a program that has a national championship ceiling, despite not being at that level for awhile now.
Mullen always recruited kinda like us now. He rather try to find an unheralded player than try to smooze with a five star, see Dak Prescott. Another gripe with Gator nation was that he recruited like he was still at Miss St. At UNLV he can value shop as long as the wins come.Mullen's recruiting fell off hard if I recall, which is why I'm surprised everyone thinks he's going to be a good fit at UNLV.
which is unintentionally very funnyre Alford, you confused Iowa with Mizzou
Maybe he did deal with this a lot with Hernandez and early Gronk party days but I just can’t see him dealing well with the classic 18-20 year old shenanigans when the players go out drinking during a big game week, have bad grades or get into trouble (which reflects the university org more than the NFL). As crazy as Saban was about football I do think he genuinely wanted to build up his guys as men.It will be interesting for sure. Belichick also doesn't have guys like Tom Brady, Mike Vrabel, or Rodney Harrison to set and keep a culture. They will overpay for players to make a splash and probably have immediate locker room issues.
Although having to deal with a "salary cap" and what is essentially a bunch of players on one-year contracts, it's a little more like the NFL that it used to be.
He also coached at a D3 school in Indiana I think. I seem to remember IWU playing them in the D3 playoffs.Sometimes higher is not better
