He accomplished a ton.
But reputation is not a list of someone's accomplishments, it's what people remember. I always find the arts to be an interesting case study in this. Somerset Maugham was a prolific author who sold more books than James Joyce. I've never read any of them and I bet none of you have either. He died 60 years ago and is already pretty much lost to history. On the other hand, Joyce died 85 years ago, people still read his work, and will still be reading his work in another 100 years.
A lot of people are going to remember the latter NE years and the clown show that is his tenure at UNC.
