Y'all can crucify me if you want, but I was hoping Cignetti would stay at Indiana. Yes, I said it. I would love for IU-UI to become the new osu- scUM rivalry. Also, I wanted someone to turn the big names down and rub it in their faces. Sure he has lots of rea$on$ to stay, but perhaps this points to a new playing field regarding the top schools poaching coaches from others schools at will. To be honest, I begrudgingly kinda like the guy.
how can you not given the job he’s done there in less than 20 months

It just shows the cursed nature of this program that while we finally seem like we’re building something sustainable, the one program that’s been even more of a doormat hits the lottery.
ahhh

something tells me things revert back to some sense of normalcy there . you can’t keep getting “lucky” in the portal every stinking year

I was hoping Cigs would leave, but I figured he'd stay at IU until the end. He gets paid a lot of money and gets to build his own legacy.

And I would be surprised if Kiffen left the south, but who knows with that guy.

I have to assume PSU had some feelers out before they fired Franklin. Just diving into this without any real interest from some big-time coaches would be such a dumb move. Maybe they end up with Jimbo Fisher or Brian Kelly; I wouldn't hate that.
if I’m PSU, i’m going all in on Urban Meyer

Go Hoosiers, sign that 65 year old to coach til 73 years old. 12 million yr.. Looking forward to his Assistant coaches taking head coaching gigs and his JMU players running out of eligibility. He'll look great in Bloomington sitting in that rocking chair counting his stacks.

I think PSU has a huge problem. Franklin had a phenomenal over all record but couldn’t quite join the elite. The next coach will be expected to do so. Who can fulfill that expectation? Yes it almost has to be an Urban Meyer type

What if it isn’t “luck”
Team wise... he'll always keep them top 25, likely better than that most years.

Getting a Heisman finalist out of the portal/bringing up your own is needle in a haystack stuff. Even for Georgia, Bama, OSU, Michigan, USC...I give him all the credit for what he's done and he's a great coach. Though he is the benefactor of a very short history in D1. Once someone of lesser talent beats you...it becomes a blueprint that others follow. Penn State experienced this to some extent.

Ed Orgeron looked like the best coach in America when he had Joe Cool. (Cig is better than Ed but you get it).

Cig will have a QB get hurt and come back to earth. If he doesn't just plain out whiff on a dude everyone projected to light the world on fire like Drew Allar.

Interesting roll of the dice. Is Cignetti really coaching into his mid-70's?

I still think what has happened there could potentially be lightning in a bottle. I'm sure many disagree, but he's only been there a season and a half.

I do think it's fitting though, as he strikes me as the Bobby Knight of college football.

More I think about, most coaching tenures last 5 years or less. Indiana will be in a far better position when they need their next coach.

Steroids may make you faster but they definitely make your bigger and stronger. Really helps a running game.

Just imagine if you are Purdue. You get two doormats in Illinois and Indiana as your protected rivals you play every year and they both become national powers.
Until the last few years, I had similar thoughts about our Power 4 nonconference games. Both teams would be on a similar level during scheduling, then the other team would be ranked or just outside the top 25 come gameday.

BB and the team's upward momentum has taken that concern away. Now I'm looking forward to playing Mizzou in 2027 on a similar level and hopefully getting revenge for the 2007-2011 stretch.

So will Bret demand close to cignetti money if he goes 10-2 this year? That contract could blow up in Indianas face in 2 years

Indiana’s meteoric rise has to be close to unprecedented. Love seeing our program rise from the ashes, but Indiana is storybook stuff.

Can I kindly remind everyone talking about "would psu/wisky/bumsville idaho" go after Bret please remember that Bret has a clause in his contract that he cannot leave Illinois to coach anywhere else in the B1G. He had this clause put in his contract and I do believe got compensated with a higher base salary for it. I call this the "I won't leave for Iowa" clause.

So PSU, Wisky, Iowa, Cucamonga U. can come calling but they will all be turned away with a big fat "NO".

Well, the Matt Rhule to Ped. St. talk should be over after PJ's Gophers smacks him tonight...

Cignatti off table. Coach Ruhle just got exposed as a wannabe. Who can Penn State get?

Brent Key - georgia tech 5-0
Manny Diaz - Duke 4-2
Lane Kiffin - Ole miss 6-0
Drinkwitz - mizzou 5-1

Jmho - i would call kiffin and drinkwitz agents
