True.

I'm not surprised to see AH go and would have been 100% content with the news but his landing spot has me reconsidering. Got a feeling we're in the midst of a Wisconsin/Nebraska fan moment where their 'upgrades' went south. We’re celebrating a departure that better programs are viewing as an opportunity.

I'll probably reconsider once we have the new DC announced.

But he’s going to Notre Dame:

That's where we get our D-line help from... incoming DC...you're a genius...!

Funny you mention D-coordinator. There is a potential NFL hire who likely has less current and future pipeline, and a former college head coach who has a strong current and future pipeline. What if we rate the NFL coordinator slightly better, but see recruiting inroads from the other coach.

Same applies for the other positions, and I'd think recruiting would be more of weight in those positions. Interested to see what the insiders perceive on this.

Bret absolutely did not want to fire A Hen ... It was honestly not an option ...

He was going to help or just flat out call in a favor to ensure Aaron landed on his feet with a great job ... Multiple NFL jobs and multiple CFB jobs were options for Aaron ... This is the one that Aaron felt was the best opportunity for him moving forward ...
The fact that Bielema prioritizes his staff's long term career stability, even for those who don't work out ... I bet is going to make our openings really enticing to elite candidates.

there was no other way this could be done
100% If you keep him on staff it just creates potential drama, media scrutiniy especially if it goes south, and it looks bush league. Maybe in a couple years Henry may be back in a similar role he has a Notre Dame. Who knows?? What has been done here is a "win, win"

In short this what good people and programs do. Go Illini!

Thank you Notre Dame. Now you can give up 30 points every game. Playing prevent when opponents on their own 10 yard line, going in for touchdown. Bye, bye.

Why would everyone be excited about Charlie Bullen? He’s not an experienced college defensive coordinator. He could be another Aaron Henry

1. Turn on the tape ... Look at the numbers before he took over Giants defense and after ...

2. There is a reason he is the only coach Harbaugh said could stay on if he wanted too ...

3. He had chances at NFL DC jobs this offseason ...

4. He knows Bret and knows this program and the expectations ... Whitman really likes him ... Booster support would be there ...

5. He is an ELITE recruiter ... Great relationship builder ... And while he doesn't want to get into that game too heavily ... We definitely can send him to close the deal if need be and he has those relationships in state ...

If that’s the case why didn’t this happen sooner- is now too late for the next DC to bring in some Lineman

Here is the latest update ...

Bullen & Wilcox continue to be the two names I am hearing ... Obviously cases to be made for both on who would be the better hire ... Obviously I know Charlie a little bit so I am biased there ... Wilcox is a dang good coach though ... Think either would be a fantastic hire ...

Look for Kerry Cooks as a possible addition as Safeties coach ... Regardless of DC hire ...

Bret looking into learning the ole 2 Stepp as well ... There is some interest on both sides there ...

I don't expect any more changes on the offensive staff ... Just the addition of a RB and TE coach ...

Took over as Giants DC towards the end of the year….did a really good job. Other teams had interest in him as DC. Only defensive coach Harbaugh would retain. Pass rush coordinator when he was here.

Exactly, Charlie is very well respected in the nfl. The current path he’s on he will be a NFL dc soon. On the flip side Ahen was interviewing to be a nfl db coach
