Florida State football continues to seek out the worst timing possible to conduct official business. They just made wholesale changes to their offensive personnel to fit Gus' unique offensive approach. It's going to be really hard to emulate that approach to maximize your (now) personnel for this season under a new OC. You could bring in the long-term solution and likely experience the pain of a mismatched personnel and scheme for this season but Norvell can't afford a less successful season.

We don’t really need our DC to recruit if that makes sense …

All are more than capable …
Stoops' long track record of excellent recruiting in Ohio stands out on that list, though.

Agree …

I think Bullen’s thought is likely do a year under Harbaugh and he’s an NFL DC next year … Not saying it’ll happen but that’s the vibe I get …
He was already one-and-done in college once, it feels like he's picked his lane.

I agree with this completely. Of course it varies from staff to staff & team to team but I'd rather just have a crusty ole ball coach as the defensive coordinator. Great if you get a guy that does both. But I want a guy that knows how to get off the field on 3rd & 8 consistently.

Of course talent matters but defensive coaching seems to just follow certain guys around. The good ones are good even with somewhat lesser pure talent. Fundamentals like tackling & knowing when to mix in the blitz vs dropping into coverage are perhaps as important as the talent on the field. Heck look at IU. Nary a 5 star in the program & that's the best tackling team I think I've ever seen at the college level. 9 times out of 10 the first man dropped the running back or receiver. Some tremendous coaching of fundamentals and scheme going on there.

Koenning did virtually no recruiting when he was here. While the recruiting wasn't that great during that time, it's a good example of letting a good coach do what he needs to do and leaving the recruiting to others.

Any chance Bret splits Safety coach and DC into two positions like he is said to be doing with TE and Special Teams?
Either way we need to replace 3 coaching openings. I think that also explains the lack of portal progress the last 3 weeks. Quick question. Does any of our D-Backs follow Aaron Henry to Notre Dame? The ND secondary started last season pretty weak but finished very strong. I know they had 4 or 5 DBs in the portal, but it seemed to me those tranferring didn' t get much playing time.

things have changed dramatically since those days . I’m not saying the DC needs to be on the road that often , or at all , be we re-recruit the entire team every friggin year now.

The new DC needs to be involved to some extent. Maybe not flying down to Fla or Tx twice a month , but more involved than Vic was . It is part of the huge jump in salaries . Get paid more for working more .

Why don't we have a defensive coordinator hired yet? Does Bret know he has vacancies on his staff? It seems as if he had no plan and was caught completely off guard!
