I was reading through this thread and saw this, so I thought I would provide some information. Bobby is historically a defensive coach. He came up coaching on the defensive side of the ball and Special Teams under Rick Neuheisal. He has always been more defensively minded, and was famously in favor of very conservative offenses. After his time at SDSU, he brought the VERY aggressive 3-3-5 defense that he had learned there. Hauck always had a DC calling plays, but he was the one teaching them the system and philosophy. None of his DC's had coached the 3-3-5 before, so Hauck was the primary mind and driver behind that unit even if he wasn't calling plays.

He is famously organized and in control of small details, and it would be an error to believe he wasn't in the DC's ear constantly telling them which direction they should be going with the game.

I'm not sure what articles described him as an offensive coach, but he has absolutely never been known for his offensive philosophies.

I think you folks made a great hire, for the record.
Thanks for the feedback I must of used the wrong words.it just seemed at the quick glance that every articles I read atm prior to posting that all I really read about that last team was more about quarterback play and how much yards your team was putting last season.however since ive had more time since that posting.that I have been able to read more about his coaching experience along with the type of defenses his team run.Ive come around to it as a better hire then I initially thought.i still do have concerns about if his defense can succeed at the big ten level along with if we have the right personal to run it along with his age and lack of interest in recruiting and his lack of experience at this level of football.I was initially disappointed with the hire after the names that were floated around before we hired him.But im starting to come around to the hire and truly hope your right that this will end up being a good hitre for us.ILL

Has a ace recruiter been lined up yet for the defensive side of the ball yet?or is there any names that the insiders could throw out there that we might be in contact with or potential hire candidates? Thanks in advance

I don't think there's any arguing that it was a massive success. It's just how much more successful could it have been with a better DC? I mean Bret fired Henry so he must think we left something on the table
The famILLy environment impacted both sides of the ball. Do you think our Quarterback, who was largely responsible for those 19 wins, would have turned down more money elsewhere if it weren't for BB's approach to all personnel? The way Bret handled the Henry situation makes the corporate analogy work for all, rather than frog-marching him out the door at the end of the season. Heartless approaches like that cause people to cover their backsides rather than give it their all and go for broke

Henry wasn't able to handle the job--that was clear. In hindsight.

Bret gave him a shot at it and helped him get out of it when he didn't grow with the rest of the program. We've moved on. Time will tell if the next choice will be better. Onward and upward!

Trust the process...

Cool so we basically have no recruiters on the staff outside of stepp, arch and Parker. Cool cool. I’m sure I’ll get backlash for that statement but it’s clearly an issue right now.

bret has earned the ability to try this and we can then judge the results. But this is giving Arkansas vibes

Bret was on The Score 670 radio station Chicago today. He said he was talking to A University of Michigan guy aka scUM to be the next running back coach. I wonder who that is? Insiders do you know who this could possibly be?
