If Orr is an option, I would rather BB bring in someone like Don Martindale from that Ravens defensive tree. Don ran a pretty good defense the last two years at Michigan despite a subpar Head Coach and Offense. Maybe he could even steal a few players from Ann Arbor while he is at it. Sounds like he interviewed for the Jets DC job but that fell through because Aaron Glenn wanted to keep play calling duties.
Which Orr? He has a brother who is a defensive quality coach with the Chiefs. And played at Wisconsin but under Chryst.

IMO Bret is very good at appearing to not be caught off guard by things even when he might be. I suspect in this case he will give off that appearance even if it is not reality. And with stuff like that perception is reality to the vast public.
Zach Orr is the name I heard
Bret is a bigger man than me if he can imagine bringing Walters back after the way he left. Though BB himself has burnt a few bridges and was given second chances, so maybe personal experience colors those glasses.

My concern with Walters would be his track record suggests he is a short term solution. Would be nice to get someone that is stable for a few years. Of course it is a balance. You want the best people but given the option stability would be a plus.
I would say they want to announce it by end of week. Bret's still fairly confident in getting "his guy," but we're all working to figure out who that is

Testosterone filled competitive youthful exuberance. BB has been there. So have a lot of coaches.
Especially on the way up when they haven't reached the top and/or have things yet to "prove".

Time heals, yes, for sure, but I think the thing that worries me here is not necessarily the "how he left" but some of the rumors surrounding his extracurricular activities both here and at Purdue. If those rumors are true we dodged a bullet when he left. Now, I have no idea if those are true. Insiders here have hinted at or outright said they are, for whatever that is worth.
In any event, I am sure Bielema knows whether they are or has at least a good idea. If Bielema knows there to be truth to those rumors, I would think it would be a pretty big risk to bring him back, both for the program and for Bret himself. No doubt he as a very capable defensive coach - top notch actually. But with off-the-field stuff like that there's always the risk it comes back to bite you big time and if we can find a good coach without those issues, I think it's a no-brainer. I'm hoping this is at least being taken into account and not just brushed aside.
If he makes a successful hire, no one will care about who said no. We're not losing recruits or fans or donors because a potential hire quietly walked away.
Stoops or Wilcox gives experience and another former HC on staff. Let’s make it happen! Wilcox could use a redemption story and is very proven as a DC

Not ideal but secret verbal agreements are not same as public announcement or signed contract. Younger generation does not understand.
