I get wanting to bring your coaches but we need some recruiters
True. And we still have a couple spots where that can happen. This is an interesting way to go about bringing in a new defense. It has the vibes of what Leipold, Kill, and some others had where they had staff continuity across different destinations. That ensures people are on the same page when installing a new system. I'm starting to come around to this being a positive hire.

Cool so were an FCS school now lol... somewhat kidding but not sure what the recruiting strategy is here.

Also just to say... the OLB play has been bad the last few years outside of Gabe. Not sure why nobody mentioned that.

My only question is on the recruiting side of things. If they can do that I'm cool with it. I'm sure having much bigger NIL resources will help, but can they identify the right talent?

It’s hard not to notice the irony. The very NIL and transfer-portal landscape these coaches blamed for “ruining the sport” and cited as their reason for leaving Montana, is now the same system positioning them for success. Suddenly, money, brand power, and roster fluidity are advantages rather than dealbreakers. If Hauch truly disliked the idea of players being paid, is he really going to be more comfortable coaching in a situation where athletes are making double or triple what Montana players earned? If the system was genuinely the problem, why not coach at the Division II or III level, where NIL isn’t a factor? Instead, he takes a job where some players are earning as much as the coaches themselves.

There are no staff limits anymore. And anyone on staff can go out and recruit. Stop getting so caught up on only 10 on field assistants being able to recruit.

As a player why would i want to be recruited by a GA who i wont be playing for? You position coaches HAVE to recruit man.

Cooper … Bradford … Hauck …

Sounds like those 3 are likely coming on board …

I’ve heard some rumblings from sources outside the program that Archie could be on his way out but nothing from him or anyone in the program that it’s official but he’s certainly been offered some opportunities … Not sure on Parker yet either …

Having your GAs and equipment managers recruiting because you hired a bunch of old guys who don’t wanna do it. What a strategy!!

I don't know how Parker will respond to a potentially diminished voice. If brother of new DC and former safeties coach is coming on board, it would surely make Parker feel small. Especially given the new 3-3-5, and Parker's unknown-to-us willingness to spend time learning / being a part of it.

Personally, I hope Bielema convinces him to stay for leadership and personality traits alone.

Well if we are interviewing Cooper the writing is on the wall for Archie. I don’t see us keep to line backer coaches. Will be interesting how the rest of the defensive staff is filled out.

Isn't there a benefit to being recruited by and familiarizing yourself with your future position coach whom you would interact with on a daily basis? It's great that we have lots of people who can sell the vision but part of it is starting to build the long term relationship.

I understand it's not always the position coach recruiting their own players, but I assumed that was the case most of the time. I could be wrong though

Just hire a full team of highly specialized recruiters and problem solved.

In fact it might help recruit really good coaches that aren’t into going on the recruitment trail. Hmmmm

It won't be long before every player has their own coach.

What do you do for a living, "I'm a coach for Illinois football."
Oh yea, what exactly, "I coach the 2nd team left offensive tackle."

IIRC it's about 3 players to 1 coach now. If you add admins, it's close to 2-1.
