Do you think UF was proactive and spoke with Frost's reps to glean this info?

Sign Mullen before getting turned down by Frost?

Interesting jump within the conference if it happens.

Apparently UF met with Frost even before Chip Kelly announced for UCLA. At least that's what ESPN was reporting. Whether the meeting actually occurred, I don't know. But UF's plan was to meet with Frost just in case Kelly went to UCLA.

Now, suddenly, there's talk about closing in on Dan Mullen?

That tells me one thing: Frost either declined to meet with UF, or told UF "thanks, but I'm waiting for the Nebraska job".

I guess it's possible that UF decided to go with Mullen rather than wait on Frost to make a decision. But if they felt as though Frost was a realistic guy for them, I'd think he'd be worth the wait.

Bingo.

Do you honestly think Tennessee suddenly found morals and ethics? At least in recent memory, this is one of the scummiest athletic programs in America.

This was a matter of influential UT folks rebelling against a northern guy that they weren't enthusiastic about.

35-40 years at least. It's fun seeing them completely irrelevant in the SEC this year.

I could see Norvell to ASU.

I'd be very surprised. Yes, he was an assistant there, but under Graham, who he was under every year accept his first GA job before getting a head coaching gig. Will he'll take a job at a school that he has no real connection to and that fired his mentor?

Sumlin is going to end up at Arizona State.

Tennessee fans want Jim Bob Cooter or Mike Norvell.

The Mississippi schools will definitely look at Lane Kiffin. Somehow, Lane Kiffin and the term Hotty Toddy just seem to go together.

Jimbo Fisher probably should lock up another 7 years guaranteed by going to TAMU.

If he does, FSU may raid Dabo's staff and take Brent Venables. Venables name has come up at Tennessee, too.

Justin Fuente will have a chance to extend with a nice raise, or take a very good job somewhere.

Man, that's a helluva name.

That's incredible. At first, I thought that was a completely made-up stereotype of a name for a Tennessee coach. But no, he's a real guy and a real coach with real UT ties.

I'm rooting hard for Mr. James Robert Cooter to get that job.

I was wondering why I haven't heard Matt Campbell's name for any of these openings and discovered he has a $9.4 million buyout!

Or Frost is staying put this year.

I don't like saying that there's a 0% chance of something happening. There's always a chance. No matter how remote.

But there's a 0% chance Frost turns down Nebraska to stay put.

Iowa State announces Matt Campbell has agreed to new 6-year deal worth $22.5 million & football staffs annual compensation increases $1 million

We thought we were getting Matt Campbell in December 2011 but the then 31 year old knew enough about TB to hop off that crazy train.

How Thomas could have not figured out who was the real man behind the curtain is tough to understand, and looking back, was the fatal flaw that ended up costing him his job.

It was Pres Hogan from UCONN with all his goofy hires that really cost the UI in so many areas.

Thomas gambled. He didn't think Toledo would give their program over to a 31 yr old coach. Not only did Toledo keep Campbell but some valuable assistants who Beckman had to replace on the fly and the rest is history.

Course Thomas shouldn't be gambling on a coach who is totally dependent on a staff to let him succeed. It was just an awful hire

Buddy just asked " Mike Gundy to Vols?"

Asking him he heard rumors or just guessing, speculating.

Would be interesting. New challenge? Done all he could at OK state?

It will be interesting to see if he can sustain things there. ISU has had a few decent seasons here and there, but success has been fleeting to say the least.

Campbell’s an interesting guy. He turned down opportunities to join the staffs of the Patriots and Ohio St when he was with Bowling Green. And he quite obviously passed up the OC job at Illinois to be HC at Toledo. He charts his own coarse.

Campbell played for Larry Kehres at Mount Union, who stuck there for 26 years, piling up ridiculous win totals when he undoubtedly could have moved up the football food chain. Maybe some of that rubbed off on Campbell.

I bet Campbell sticks at ISU for a while.

Doubt it. He's an Oklahoma State alum, and I'm pretty sure his mullet is considered a state historic site in the state of Oklahoma. He's not going anywhere.

Wow Tennessee's a mess. Seems like us with Phyllis Wise and Thomas. Amateur operation being publically turned down left and right.
