Nebraska ceased to be nationally relevant when they fired Frank Solich and hired Bill Callahan. Solich found a nice comfortable gig at Ohio U, though, where he's still coaching at age 73.

Solich is taking Ohio to their ninth bowl game in the last 12 years. The number of bowls in Ohio’s previous 44 seasons... 2.

Urban decided correctly that he had a better chance for a national title at Florida. Times have changed but the same holds true between Nebraska and Florida (although you’re on an awfully short leash at Florida these days). An argument can be made that the ceiling for Nebraska today is Iowa or at best Wisconsin good (which we lust for). It’s hard to imagine them ever being consistently in the playoff discussion. Heck Wisconsin is only in the conversation because they’re undefeated.

Yeah. It may be hard for Nebraska fans to accept, but it's no longer an elite program. That 2001/2002 national title game against Miami was Nebraska's last gasp. Utterly destroyed by a Miami team that had more speed, athleticism, and talent at every position. That game, in my mind, signaled the death of Nebraska option football. They haven't recovered.

Florida is a better job, period. But home is home. Frost was born in Nebraska. Went to Nebraska. I think he goes back.

While true that Nebraska must recruit nationally to be competitive, I think Frost can probably do that. He has all sorts of ties -- West Coast ties, Florida ties, etc. I don't see Nebraska ever returning to Tom Osborne glory, but there's no reason why they can't do what Wisconsin is doing.

I think Schiano will do well at Tennessee, good bowl games, not sure if good enough for playoffs unless Saban retires. The question is will it be enough for Tennessee.

Mullen at UF will fail. Short of them getting another Urban Meyer or Spurrier, that person is destined to fail... Heck, they even made Urban fake illness just to get away from them!

Mullen would be wise to stay at Miss St where they will appreciate him winning with some good bowl games here and there.

Who is ASU going to get that's better than who they have after beating UA and having a 7-5 season. Horrible move that they will soon regret after several sub .500 seasons to come.

SEC = Should Expect Championships

Solution: fire all the coaches, have Saban coach everyone remotely simultaneously or take turns having Saban coach their team. Problem solved.

Saban > Ditka

As I suspected from the get-go. Not a huge fan of the hire, and I suspect UF fans won't be, either.

This means one thing: Frost to Nebraska.

Do you think UF was proactive and spoke with Frost's reps to glean this info?

Sign Mullen before getting turned down by Frost?

Interesting jump within the conference if it happens.

I agree. They've had a couple "tough" years (I'd die for the Illini to have those kind of tough years), but they've held their own and been competitive at least since Graham has been there. Not sure they can do much better.

I’m glad to not be in the market place now. Arkansas, A & M, ASU, Nebraska and others looking. Half of those hires at least will probably fail. It’s not that easy to climb out of a hole. You have to have the right leadership, support, luck and patience.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Currie is an absolute imbecile. How does this guy keep his job, and actually move up? Unreal.

Arizona State has fired five consecutive head coaches, none of whom had a losing record at the school.

Sumlin is going to end up at Arizona State.

Tennessee fans want Jim Bob Cooter or Mike Norvell.

The Mississippi schools will definitely look at Lane Kiffin. Somehow, Lane Kiffin and the term Hotty Toddy just seem to go together.

Jimbo Fisher probably should lock up another 7 years guaranteed by going to TAMU.

If he does, FSU may raid Dabo's staff and take Brent Venables. Venables name has come up at Tennessee, too.

Justin Fuente will have a chance to extend with a nice raise, or take a very good job somewhere.

I could see Norvell to ASU.

Feels like they just used the Penn St stuff as the sword to slay a hire they didn't like. They aren't going to land an overwhelming no brainer hire (Gruden).

They have only made their job opening all the more unappealing

Bingo.

Do you honestly think Tennessee suddenly found morals and ethics? At least in recent memory, this is one of the scummiest athletic programs in America.

This was a matter of influential UT folks rebelling against a northern guy that they weren't enthusiastic about.
