I'd imagine coaching in the NBA and especially coaching in Boston brings its fair share of issues. Dealing with NBA superstar personalities can probably get old depending on who you are. I don't follow the NBA much but aren't the Celtics sort of struggling this year with pretty much the same exact roster as last year?

My hot take was that was a diplomatic interview, that will be misread by Indiana fans as "so you're saying there's a chance?"

He's far too skilled navigating these kinds of things to not give Indiana a nod, even when there's virtually no chance he'll leave. College has it's share of problems, and the sheer number of personalities that come with that landscape, to say nothing of recruiting, is pretty mind-bending. He's put the Celtics in the play-offs the last 6 years, and is probably making at least $4mil/yr.

That said, there's always a chance IU could throw so much money at him that he winds up pushing the Celtics to re-negotiate, and it falls apart, leading him to Indiana. Whatever boosters put up $10 mil for the buy-out probably did so with some kind of plan....you'd think.

Hey, now. Alabama has got itself some fine BBQ. Indiana has got... well... interstate highways connecting it at the very least to EC Illinois and Western Ohio.

Has an employed NBA coach ever voluntarily left the NBA to go coach college basketball? And we’re not talking the Charlotte Hornets or Sacramento Kings here. We're talking about the head coach of the Boston freaking Celtics.
Larry Brown has been back and forth several times. He's an outlier.

I'm not sure how long Stevens has left in Boston. Big splash to start and then leveling off.

Timing is almost impossible to pull off so not likely. It would be one of the great AD moved of all time if it happens.

Here's a dumb question: Would Jason Kidd leave the Lakers bench for a high level college job (in a similar Penny Hardaway or Juwan Howard type situation)? He would triple or quadruple his salary. Recruits know the name. He has coaching background.

I'm just not familiar with coaching moves or mentality, or Kidd for that matter.

I was going to say. If we're going to slam the South, let's do it to a state that deserves it: Mississippi.

Mississippi has fantastic BBQ and gave the world the gift of blues. I prefer to slam Alabama.

my oldest son went to Ole Miss
I love that town and I really love that state. Ive found 99% of the people who bash Mississippi have never been there or just drove thru without ever really spending any time there or meeting anyone . People there are as nice as can be. Its the northern cities that have issues with race actually
I'm with you. Oxford in the spring is just gorgeous. And my experience with people across the state, from the Gulf to the Delta, to deep into the eastern woods, has been uniformly positive. Memphis seems really the place down there having a big problem with race, and lots of other things, too; something's not right in that town.

Alabama has NASA and UAB is one of the top 20 medical colleges in the US (12th in NIH funding for a public university).

Pitino actually did it twice. He left the Knicks to go to Kentucky and the Celtics to go to Louisville. Though, as you said, he had worn out his welcome in Boston.
Right. The last time Pitino or Brown left voluntarily from pro to college was Pitino leaving the Knicks for Kentucky in 1989. This was just before Michael Jordan completely changed the perception of the NBA and the relative prestige and coaching salaries between the two levels of play.

Since then, Pitino leaving Boston for Louisville and Brown leaving Charlotte for SMU were both “one step ahead of the posse” moments with each leaving midway through the NBA season with records significantly below .500.

Whenever Stevens leaves Boston, he’ll have his pick of college gigs. He’s under no pressure to leave now

Don't follow the NBA much but the Boston media has to be putting some pressure on him for their season thus for no? 6th place in the eastern conference with a pretty solid roster.

Was Kansas the only college stop Brown had (besides SMU) where he left without scandal on his heels? He took UCLA to the title game in '81(?) v. L'ville but I believe that was subsequently vacated, or at the very least he left quickly with the NCAA coming in the door there.

Marcus Smart and Kemba Walker are both healthy at the same time for the first time this season this last week. That’s their starting backcourt.

... and the musical legacy of Muscle Shoals, the history of steelmaking in Birmingham and the beautiful Vulcan Park there, shipbuilding in Mobile, etc...

I think we really need to restore focus on berating Indiana.

There's a lot more cool stuff than NASA in Huntsville, and NASA is not unique to Alabama anyway. Space Camp is cool, though.

No, he is head coach at Auburn.
Is this a telegram?

Yes, from Mephistopheles... Perhaps you know my other client, he is currently head coach at Michigan State, perhaps you know his team by their new name we worked out in a deal with him... Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage. :devilish: ...It got him into the tournament this year, too bad a play-in was the best I could do. 🔥
