I think Iowa is on the downslide after Garza leaves, Wisconsin appears in trouble after their Sr class leaves this year or next, Archie out at Indiana and Pitino at Mn. This leaves the door wide open for ILL to reclaim the top of the B1G and stay there for at least a few years.

I think you're underestimating OSU and scUM. I also expect MSU to be back to form sooner than later.

I am with you. Top tier of B1G in near the future ILL-OSU-MSU-scUM. But I think we have a chance with our returning talent to be in this tier for a couple more years before these other schools (Ind, MN, Iowa, Wisc) get their bearings.

He stepped down from OSU because of awful chronic back problems. It's a miracle he was able to coach his final seasons there. Unless he has made a dramatic recovery I'd be skeptical of him taking on a job like this. OTOH, I haven't read anything about him in 2-3 yrs.

I thought he was a serious candidate for the Georgia job when they hired Crean.

Will be interesting to see what happens to MSU when Izzo retires. As discussed earlier, some programs can’t find the magic when the legend retires.

And scUM has the best recruiting class in the nation for next season.

After that it's actually pretty weak though. MSU is bringing in a solid class and then the next best class right now is Nebraska.

This all from an athletic department that had in October a $12 million shortfall plus 35 unfulfilled positions plus existing staffers taking pay cuts. Yup, we're going to make Brad Steven's the highest paid BIG coach with $4.3 million. And guarantee it for 5 years. LOL, makes sense.

They came up with the money to buyout Archie. They woudn't do that if the target they have isn't huge. You don't pay 10 mils buyout to Archie to get another Archie

So if Southern Illinois offered Underwood more money than we're paying him, it wouldn't be a step down if he took it?

It wouldn't be a step down in salary, and isn't that the only thing that matters? If you want to pay me $10 million a year to dig ditches, or pay me $20,000 a year to be the head of a hospital, I'm going to dig ditches.

A job is only as big as how much $$$$ someone is willing to pay you to do it

Do you know the story of Faust?

No it's still a step down. You just have more money at the lower level.

So you think Nick Saban considered the Alabama football job a step down from the Miami Dolphins? Given the salary they paid him, what it means to be football coach at Alabama, I don't think anyone in America would think any NFL job is better than Alabama. And at the time Saban took the Bama job, they were in a very down place, similar to where Indiana is currently in basketball. The Indiana job, and what it means in the state of Indiana, and the money they can pay someone for that job, makes it very prestigious.

Meh not always. There are reasons one might take less pay to do a job they'd prefer. I'm actually about to take a bit of a paycut to get away from an insanely toxic work culture that's been consistently getting worse over a period of five years. And I'm thrilled about it!

It's not an opinion it's a fact that the NBA is a higher level of competition.

Um no.

No matter how much money you make you're not creating a legacy without notable successes. I've got no problem with people grabbing the money but in coaching creating a legacy is more important to me.

Additionally after a certain point the money isn't all that important.
