Been in Austin since 2010. Traffic sucked then too. People here don’t know how to drive in it and the infrastructure is not designed to handle the growth.

Besides that, it’s a great place to live. The benefit of a growing city is a TON of stuff is just brand new and beautiful, to go along with the awesome natural beauty of the area. Coaches are gonna be on the road at 5 in the morning and 8 at night so they’re not gonna have to deal with traffic. Been through the practice facilities quite a few times and they are great. A new stadium is coming. The talent in Houston and Dallas is serious, and for my money Texas is the most athletic state in the country.

BUT, UT doesn’t give a damn about basketball. As I said in a previous post, the culture around UT Athletics is kind of disgusting. I’d be shocked if Beard came even as a UT guy. I told my friend John Belein when the Shaka rumors started. But right now I bet Royal Ivey is the best they’ll do, and they won’t even care.
Above is correct-- I build in both Champaign and Austin. Austin is a wonderful city- I don't go to either downtown often (homeless, parking hassles....) You figure out the traffic- that's a non issue (Awesome places are busier than non awesome places). I'm not sure what the draw would be for Underwood to Austin unless he felt like it was his chance to gain permanent financial security for his family (if Texas offers that). There are housing cost options similar to Champaign Cost in many areas in Austin but home prices are rising rapidly year over year and housing cost will become an issue in the near future if price appreciation doesn't slow down. There are also places in Austin that are extremely expensive like any big city. They are building a New Basketball Arena to make way for a medical campus which might attract/retain in-state talent but it's a Foot Ball School for sure. I went to a basketball game in Austin and the highlight was the craft beer and Chuck Norris happened to be there. Sorry for the long post but did want to set the record straight on some of the previous post.

Yes, but there's the hubris factor. Beard just knows he's going to be the exception.
He showed up at Texas Tech and instantly took them to an elite 8 and the title game.

Why would he not think he can be successful at one of the easiest schools to recruit to in the nation.

Look at the track record of previous coaches. Beard would be better off staying. The cockiness of the Slowhorn fans and media will make it difficult if you do not win.

The record of different coaches have no bearing on his potential. There is no disadvantage at Texas that needs to be overcome. In fact it's quite the opposite.

Have you ever been to Texas, on campus, or to a game?

People see the money and assume that makes everything here okay. There are significant issues here that need to be overcome. That’s why the last 3 football/basketball hires have FAILED.

You know there’s a significant problem when the football hires have failed down here. And we’re talking about a sport they don’t care about in basketball.

What’s the track record with football coaches at the U of I... Basketball is always second to football at Texas, that’s the culture. Does that make for a bad place to coach~ I don’t know.

I suspect that Hoosier fans will not consider this the home-run hire that they thought they deserved due to their elite status as college basketball royalty

I think this pretty much confirms it. LMAO

If you want some fun reads, check out this Hoosier forum, a lot of IU fans are "done" with the program and think they've given up.

Thad Matta is apparently coming on as associate AD for men's basketball.

The Matta wrinkle is interesting. Apparently will not be an assistant coach/can't recruit, so not sure exactly what his role will be

Surprised they didn't wait until the tournament is over at this point to interview Drew/Beard, if maybe they already sent out feelers that were not promising

If this Woody thing is true, Scott Dolson might want to think about keeping his dog inside for a while. Hoosier Nation is restless. Look for a lot of couch fires in Bloomington.

Just read a tweet that said Indiana AD is basically just butt dialing coaches now hoping someone says yes. Haha. Always fun to laugh at our neighbors to the East.
Be careful though, it wasn't too long ago that they were laughing at us.

His role is going to be to line up the next coach and fire Woodson.

Matta will be acting in some type of clearing house role.
It seems Matta coming out of retirement for this kind of role is questionable at least, wondering what his salary is also because he's not used to clearinghouse pay.
