In fairness, our fanbase was suggested some pretty wacky and unrealistic stuff, too, and we have less "history" than them.

Does anyone remember back when we fired Weber and a certain group of posters were convinced we could lure Self back to "finish what he started" since he had already accomplished everything at KU? 🤦‍♂️

You're right that every fan base has their share of delusional fans.

I guess it just seems like ALL of IU's fans are delusional. :)

Don't care so much about the fans' delusions. Am hopeful that the AD and those funding a new coach are wholly out to lunch, however.

They must have someone in mind, bc you don't just shell out 7mill without a plan in place. Oh wait ... this is IU. Nevermind.
they likely do

this decision has been contemplated for at least a few weeks. likely cemented once they were one and done in the BTT after getting schooled by Rutgers .
my guess is they do have at least one big name in mind . They aren't reaching too far down .

Thad Matta or Brad Stevens and even Beilein would not surprise me at all .

Remember when we were getting Jeff Van Gundy after Self dumped us? Good times around here.

This one scares me re: OA.

Might be a reach for him to jump up to the Big East but what does DePaul have to lose at this point? He would bring in top notch talent there.
I don't want to insult DePaul, but with the job OA has done for us on the recruiting trail and helping to develop both Kofi and Giorgi, I would expect him to hold out for something a little better. If we make it to the Final Four this year, couldn't he just sit back and wait for the suitors to line up in front of him?

Pitino has Iona in the tournament, his stock is rising.

Yes he could !! Just remember he is just like one of the players we just watched win the tournament, a TEAM !!!! Underwood has assembled great minds in all aspects of the game, coaching and recruiting. I hope everyone stays in tact for a while. Just like Ayo did, stay for another year, oh yea!!

I was told IU has reached out to Bruce Pearl. Not sure I believe it.
IDK- I heard Pearl as a possibility a few minutes ago too. Didn't learn their lesson with hiring shady coaches I guess. Indiana has been Indiana in a while so time to sell their soul.

I agree. IU has reached desperation stage - if they are throwing $7 mil at Archie to go away, they will throw crazy money at Matta and Stevens. I don't think they will go after the 68-year-old Beilein unless their money can't attract a younger target.

There was a small but real group of Illini fans who seemed to legitimately want to hire him despite sanctions and obvious character issues because they were so desperate to reach the mountain top again. I am glad it didn't have to come to that.
Funny he was rated an ‘A’ hire while Underwood was rated an ‘A-‘ hire. That was pretty much the consensus across the talking heads.

No - the fan base threw Samspon out after two years. I do not see them going there.

Stevens and Matta are both legit possibilities. I believe IU has been mentioned in the past as the dream school for both, and both would be a major headache for the rest of the conference

Having gone to the beloved between ‘91 and ‘95 it is with especially great pain that I say this, but he actually is a talented coach. A veritable scumbag but good at X’s and O’s. I hope we don’t have to countenance his presence on a yearly basis though.

Is Stevens still coaching the Celtics? If so, why would he leave for IU?

I would have to cosign this. A perfect description of the one who shall go unnamed.
