Let's say we gave him a raise right after the tournament ended. You raise him from where he was to, what, like $550k? $600k? That's still nothing compared to $1.2M and we would be right back in this situation. This situation has nothing to do with whether he got a pay bump after this season and everything to do with getting offered a huge payday from a blue blood with whom he already has prior connections.

1) At least we made Kentucky spend more money than they originally intended.
2) It sends a signal to other prospective assistants that we are serious and will reward success.
