Wait, what about all the fans at KY who KNOW OA because he is "elite"? But KY didn't want him for SEVEN years? I don't get the logic here. He was really good at KY so everyone remembers him but they didn't actually want to try to get him back (unless they are real good at keeping it secret? and they just recently thought of offering OA boatloads of money? but only until Cal's back is literally against the wall with his own boosters?)

Cal is trying to make a big splash and maybe, just maybe JW will end up with a bigger splash.
But either way, people are talking about KY and Illinois in the same breath! that's pretty cool if you ask me.

My point is that OA is not quite as great at being an asst coach as some here (and Cal of course) are suggesting, that's all. He's very, very good at what he does. Sure, if KY wants him we want him, too. But I suspect that a lot of what is going on right now is Cal trying to pump OA up to help save his own skin.

And if other teams were trying to poach any of our coaches, it would have leaked, IMO. Heck someone would have posted it just to get laughs two years ago. It's nearly impossible to keep something like that secret, especially since everyone at KY "remembers" OA. Agents leak this stuff as a negotiating ploy.

I don't get why people, not singling you out, want to give OA credit for our turnaround and don't even mention BU? Isn't BU the guy who "facilitates" EVERYTHING? I give him MOST of the credit. Good recruits come here to play for the HC not one of his assts.

I hope both OA and Chin stay with us because what we have is working great, not necessarily because those two are irreplaceable. Even BU is replaceable, obviously, but losing him would hurt us far, far more than losing any of our other coaches, IMO.

Losing BU would be like losing Self was. Losing OA would be like Weber losing Jerrance Howard.
That's the "context" I see here. One sux much more than the other. Neither one was/will be the end of the world.
All the coaches get some of the credit. Look at how we have improved at every position. Look how we have adapted and found success. Look how we have done in recruiting and player development. That’s across the board. Yeah I wish were pulling top 10 players but not many other B1G programs are really. Sure, everyone is replaceable, but when things are going well why break it? So much energy would be wasted in finding two replacements and “cruitin” is happening right now.

If The Beloved pulls this off and keeps All The Band together (and bests a Blue Blood in the process) this is more fun than winning that game at Duke. As others have noted, this is a Statement hire. There will be one more plate set at the Big Table from now on.

This isn't that complicated. I guarantee you the very first conversation Josh had after finding out UK was looking to poach OA was to ask BU, "how important is OA to our continued success?" And BU must have told him something that roughly translated to "over $1m per year for 4 years." That in no way discounts BU's importance to our success. Quite the opposite really. If you think BU is that good at what he does, then you assign special weight to his evaluation of assistant coaches as well. If BU had told Josh that OA is replaceable, we would have let him walk without a fight.

BU sold Josh on OA's value. Josh sold others on OA's value. Cal sold UK on OA's value. It's a stretch to think all of this has just been empty gamesmanship.

I've graphed an incredibly scientific and objective morale x time relationship on IL since Monday night. If we've learned anything from this week it's that we'll never learn.

I'm sure they discussed everyone on the staff shortly after the dance ended and had individual meetings with each of them as well.

"empty gamesmanship" and the hype/bidding war around OA IMO are two extreme ends of what is probably happening right now. Reality likely is more in the middle of those two extremes.

It's tough to know what is exactly happening obviously because we are privy to so little accurate, unbiased information. It's uber frustrating for all of us right now.
I guess I don't really understand your position. You admit that we have limited access to accurate, unbiased information on this board. But those who are best informed about the situation have agreed that OA should become the highest paid assistant coach in the country. Could both schools be mistaken in their evaluation of OA's value? Certainly, but people who have actual skin in the game don't seem to be harboring those same kinds of doubts.

You sure those salary numbers aren't just leaks coming from the respective agents or maybe a booster or two?
There's plenty of smoke, though, I'll give you that.
And who are "those who are best informed about the situation"?
I'm guessing you might be referring to sportswriters who publish leaks for a living.

Cute. Is there a link that outlines exactly what happened the last time you negotiated your own salary?

Now I'm really confused. Is your argument that there is no bidding war going on for OA? Counteroffers don't happen without initial offers.

doesn't that argue against yourself or do you or your agent know and talk to those people personally?

and sadly no, even my wife no longer finds me cute but overlooks that due to the results of my last salary negotiation.

You caught me. I am OA's agent. I have been spreading misinformation on this website in an attempt to convince everyone there is a bidding war happening right now for OA's services. But that's a lie. In fact, the entire concept of OA is a lie. He's a paid actor who has been hired to distract Illinois residents from learning about the chemicals the government is secretly adding to our drinking water.

Every sportswriter and person who has mentioned the bidding war on social media or on a message board is part of this conspiracy too. We've been thwarted. The Illuminati won't be happy about that.
