Quite surprising to have 3/4 of the coaching staff turnover after earning a 1 seed in the tourney.

So complete overhaul of the staff? All 3 potentially?
Wow, I can't ever recall a whole Asst. staff turning over like that anywhere ever. Could this all really be this massive coincidence with openings at schools that just so happen to have previous ties to and also covet our ACs? And because we finally had one good year after a long drought?

It's almost impossible not to wonder if there's more to this all behind the scenes in terms of overall job satisfaction and/or dare we say, coaching culture? I know nothing, have no inside info, and just hope however this all goes down that it ends up not even being a speed bump to BU, Josh, and our BB program. As an Illini fan though, I'm conditioned to expect the worst and it's possible this could have a significant negative impact.

Eh, Gonzaga is currently the “it” program (or on the short list of current “it” programs) and also his alma mater. Bad luck if we lose all 3 assistants for sure, but all 3 are potentially moving to objectively better jobs, if not HC jobs.

I feel good with belo. They also said that Kofi could come so i think they are just being hopeful.

Is there really talk or just all take from a frantic and paranoid fanbase? This would be absolutely horrible if there is any truth to this!

Right now it’s just paranoia. But not so sure about tomorrow will bring ;). (Isn’t hat what a paranoid person would say?)

Well, I wonder how Roger feels about that and whom will be higher on the totem pole.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better assistant job, than the assistant jobs at Gonzaga. There's not another school with more job security, and you are guaranteed to have a great record which will inevitably lead to teams wanting to hire you as a HC. Powell has really navigated his coaching career brilliantly. He latched on to a riser coach in Bryce Drew at Valpo. Followed him to Vanderbilt. Then managed to leave a fired staff at Vanderbilt and land at Gonzaga. The Rev is living a blessed life.

I will consider it a disaster IF BU leaves

I would be very surprised if BU had not gamed such a scenario

Reboot

However, I am inclined to believe @Pikeilliifan. I suspect JW put his foot down at some point in time

Hope we don’t lose any players. Convinced Underwood will keep competing and bringing in talent if we do.

If we lose three assistant coaches after this year, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than we will ever know, and it cannot be about pay, UI or Whitman.

And if AC leaves for UK, that will be a total disaster.

I disagree with your first sentence. Gonzaga/Kentucky are bluebloods. Calipari/Few are Hall of Fame level coaches. I don't think losing assistant coaches to programs like that reflects negatively on us. What more behind the scenes can it be other than "I have a chance to jump to a better job, I'm going to take it". OA has a longer relationship with Calipari than BU. Gentry is an alum of Gonzaga. Those guys are more connected to those jobs, than Illinois. I do think Chin jumping would reflect poorly on Illinois/Chicago/Fire relationship though.

Agree on AC. He's the lynchpin holding this thing together. If he leaves, and creates the dominos falling, we're looking at a Crean at IU level rebuild. If he stays, and the current class stays together, I think we can weather the storm.

Who? Curbelo?
Nobody thinks it’s a coincidence that OA goes to ky and now they need a point guard real bad. Don’t think for a second coach C hasn’t been asking about him coming with OA. Unfortunately get your nut cups out cause we may be watching the sports world see curbello as a wildcat. I can’t think of a worse case scenario. We desperately need curbello to be the face of Illinois basketball for the future going forward. He has that “IT” factor

Oh great.. now we will have asst coaching hires based on potential player transfers.

If AC goes to Wildcats, Caliparri may be as hated as Pearl on this board..
if AC leaves, it will be melt down city here.

OK is this really a legitimate thing that could happen or is it just a fanbase with severe PTSD seeing phantoms? Because y’all are starting to scare me with this talk.
