That's not being pessimistic. It is based on fact. There are multiple examples of times when Illinois has been so close to the basketball mountaintop only to have something unforeseen happen to dash their hopes. And, the occurrences aren't always the same. Some are unbelievable apart from the fact that they really did happen. When you've been a fan as long as I have you've seen some things. I'm a little surprised that Illini fans haven't genetically evolved to already have a cup in place when they are born.
That's the problem, if we're still Illini fans after all these disappointing years, I don't think we genetically evolved. 🤣

With time we will eventually know if we are Frank Dux or Chong Li

Not a fan of the assistants all possibly leaving at once; however, if the players stay committed and progress we should be fine with what we have and may still have coming in '22. Hopefully Kofi returns, continues his ascension and we show his replacement that OA wasn't the only contributing factor to his success. Get a few recruiters who saw our offers to OA and maybe this train doesn't need to skip a beat after all.

I understand the frustration everyone, I have the same thing. But when we hire some solid assistants with ties to their own recruits and possible new aau ties we will move on and be fine. We will have a good team next year and will continue to build momentum.

This

I find it very hard to believe that BU is so unprepared that he will allow HIS program to be in the dump no matter what -ve event occurs.

Bet he is one of the most prepared coaches out there. Loyola was a rare event, IMHO.

Goode, or his dad, made a statement that he was an Illini no matter what or somethjng to that effect.
That's what I want to hear - from all the recruits. And yes,, according to 247, Luke was recruited by Gentry.

All the talk is OA is trying to leave the right way. If he poaches Andre that’s not the right way. But, there’s gonna be pressure to do it from Cal. Kentucky’s roster is a trash pile right now.
lOTS of pressure for him to brin in curbello. He’s a program changer for any team. I think Melendez will be gone as well

I wonder how many 5-star players Cal needs to keep Kentucky competitive? I felt bad for him this past season as he only had maybe 3 or 4 on the roster, probably why they were a below .500 team. Nothing personal against Coach Cal, but who can expect a coach to finish above .500 with just a few 5-star players. I'm guessing he needs at least 7 or 8 if he wants to be a good coach again and compete in the SEC. I could be wrong, simply an observation.

This will be an amazing test for BU if we lose 2 or 3 asst coaches. I really hope Chin sticks around as our top assistant.. assuming OA leaves.

One of the challenges coaches have is getting new coaches integrated into culture and system....doing that with 2 or 3 new assistants is almost like restarting his 1st year. That is why the veteran players are so extremely important now. Keeping Chin would huge!
Probably need Tyler as grad assistant also..

if we get through this somewhat smoothly, BU s program will prove amazing resilience.
